Jubilation is currently going on in Accra, Ghana as Ghana Electoral
Commission declared opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo the winner of
Wednesday's tightly contested presidential election. Mr Akufo-Addo, from
the New Patriotic Party,
won the election on his third attempt to reach the presidency.
The 72 years-old human rights lawyer, Nana Akufo-Addo was a former justice and foreign minister in the NPP government from 2001 to 2007. His Main promise is to build a factory in each of Ghana's more than 200 districts.
However, President John Mahama called Mr Akufo-Addo to admit defeat, a spokesman for his party said, as the Electoral Commission announced the result.
Ghana has been a multi-party democracy since the end of military rule in 1992 and this result is seen as reinforcing its reputation for the peaceful transfer of power between administrations .
Congrats to Ghanaians.

@Farotimi: Goodluck Jonathan set the pace even Americans, Europeans... are emulating from him
Sule Beeti Snow Audu
Really? Even Americans, Europeans emulated GEJ! You try!
Endy Edeson
@Sule: at least, hillary Clinton congratulated Trump.
Sule Beeti Snow Audu
Ok.
And who told you all other defeated pasted Presidents (in western world
& in Africa) before GEJ did not congratulate their successors ?
Endy Edeson
@sule:
before now, you and I know that most losers in election around the
world challenge the victory of their opponents but these days it's a
different ball game entirely as everyone is embracing democratic prowes
with mutual agreement...
Abulus Thompson
This
shld be a wake- up cal to all politicians that the era of incubency
dominant is over if they think they will misrule us and come for another
term to decieve us and win they shld better think twice thank God the
electorate votes are begining to count.

@Abulus:
am waiting to know what will happen if Mugabe's wife eventually loses
the presidential seat she is eyeing. I pray she follows suit

do ur research. I only want put to u that GEJ did not set the pace. By
the way why should a constitutional demand of accepting defeating and
hand over power to who won be consider heroic?
For ur info, Kenneth kauda of Zambian conceded defeat and handed over to Frederick Chiluba; Senegalese President Abdou Diouf conceded defeat handed over to Abdoulaya Wada; and in one of the most dramatic hand over, President Abdulraman Mohammed Farole of autonomous Somalia region of puntland conceded defeat & handed power to Prof Abdiweli Mohammed Ali even though he lost by 'one vote' .

@Sule:
you are right but GEJ may have not set the pace for conceding defeat
but he popularize the idea. Also, conceding defeat is heroic because it
prevents anarchy and makes democracy "sweet"
Sule Beeti Snow Audu
Then
we should start singing the hero song for all defeated past Presidents
and enshrine in the constitution of every countries that such President
should be honoured and awarded.
Endy Edeson
If
awards are giving to contestants who concede defeat, it will encourage
more peace elections but some contestants might still fake their
concession just for public glory. @Sule
Sule Beeti Snow Audu
U hit the point i'm driving at. I have nothing to say again !
Browayson John Annagu
Well,
former President Sir Goodluck Jonathan really took a bold step to lead
by example leaving a good legacy for all other African leaders to
emulate, and what better way to concede defeat than peacefully accepting
the electoral college' result. Its a humble thing to do by every leader
no matter how high & mighty u are,congratttts ss to the new President Nanna- Akufo Addo.
Sule Beeti Snow Audu
And
who left legacy for Goodluck to emulate? The first President to concede
defeat and hand power to opposition in post-colonial Africa was late
Somalia President Aden Abdullah Osman Daar in 1968.......hist ory didn't say it was GEJ laid the legacy.
Blessing Adesina Adeleke
#sule You get problem oo
Sule Beeti Snow Audu
#Blessing
the problem is you who refuse read and will accept anything thrown at
you. I stated the facts you can state ur own & prove me wrong if u
have any.
Endy Edeson
@sule
& browayson: you guys are both right. The difference is that
Goodluck stands for Modern Legacy while Osman of Somalia stands for
historic legacy
