One of CNN‘s most popular personalities, Richard Quest of Quest Means Business arrived Lagos Nigeria this week to film his show and discuss with Segun Demuren (Aviation Expert) on issues of the aviation sector. The happy looking man was spotted in different location of Lagos.
Though, he is a known face on CNN but there are little-known facts about him. Below are 5 amazing facts you probably didn't know about Quest.
1. He is a Qualified Lawyer:
While many people are familiar with Quest in his travel, business and finance journalistic role, few are aware of the fact that he is a qualified lawyer who graduated with an LLB Hons degree from Leeds University in the United Kingdom.
2. He is a Gay:
After many years of speculation and rumor mongering, the renowned CNN TV personality in 2014 stepped out and admitted that he was gay. Quest’s public announcement added to other CNN anchors who have come out the closet such likes as Anderson Cooper in 2012 and Don Lemon in 2011.
3. He Suffered Mental Sickness:
In 2008 Richard was arrested and taken to rehab. His arrest during wee hours of the morning in Central Park, New York was for alleged possession of crystal methamphetamine. In addition to the drug, Quest is alleged to also have had a rope on his neck, which was tied to his private parts. Moreover, he was also said to have a had a sex toy in his car boot. Quest was arraigned before the court and a ruling was made which saw him being taken for drug treatment and rehab. In an interview he admitted that he was sorry for the episode and was thankful for the support he received from CNN. The rehab helped him revert and get over the addiction.
4. He Rejected Al Jazeera Job Offer:
He turned down a work offer from Al Jazeera. In 2006, Al Jazeera English had a job opportunity for Richard Quest, which he turned down. Not that he just didn’t feel like working for the company or was turned off by the money; rather, he didn’t want to offend the Islamic religion. Al Jazeera is a Qatar owned company, which means it is based in an Islamic country and generally upholds Islamic values. As mentioned in Fact #1 Quest who is a Jew has since 2013 been openly gay and for that he didn’t want to feel misplaced by working for Al Jazeera, so he felt it was unsuitable and turned down the offer.
5. He Has A Twin Sister:
Quest has a twin sister, called Caroline Quest. It would appear financial management runs in the family. While Richard Quest was delegated to the finance department at the BBC when he worked there his twin Caroline Quest, is the Director of Finance at the University of Leicester.
