GEOPGRAPHY / SCIENCE : Some Nigerians Panic as Annual Solar Eclipse Predicted to Happen Today

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partly obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth.


Annular Solar Eclipse will be experienced in Nigeria tomorrow September 1, 2016 between the hours of 7:15am and 10:03am with slight variations in actual timing across the country.

National Space Research and Development Agency (NSRDA) has urged the public not to panic or give any mystical interpretations to the event, urging them not to observe the eclipse with Naked eyes, as this can cause damage.

The Agency has arranged a viewing centre tomorrow to enable members of the public, pupils and students from various schools to view the eclipse using specially designed viewing instruments provided by the space Agency.
