At least 150 undergraduate academic programmes in Nigeria’s public and private universities are unaccredited by National Universities Commission -NUC.
According to NUC, the unaccredited courses are domiciled in 37 of 143 universities in the country. The Quality Assurance Department of the NUC is in charge of accrediting courses in the universities. For a course to be accredited, the NUC says, it must meet the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) that has been drawn up by the commission.
The affected universities include universities such as the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; University of Benin, University of Jos, University of Calabar and the University of Abuja which has 15 of its courses, including Law, unaccredited.

University of Abuja and University of Benin on the list raises eye brows
Adibe Moses
So what will happen to dos graduates dat graduated from one of dos unaccredited courses now?
Endy Edeson
@Adibe:
the accreditation of courses by NUC is a continous process. A course
that is not accredited today can be accredited tomorrow. Though, it is
risky to go for unaccredited course because some employers and companies
reject such certificates
Adibe Moses
U
didn't get my question well bro. I mean dos dat av already graduated
frm one of d listed courses in one of d above sch mentioned.
Endy Edeson
ok.
well, according to NUC, such certificates are not valid and not
recongnised except if the course is later accredited by NUC, that it
will be valid. I wonder if this accreditation thing even affect the
students in Nigeria. Imagine University of Abuja with lots of
unaccredited course and students are graduating from the school. To me,
the accreditation thing is just a requisite to promote academic
excellence in Universities
