The State government came up with this policy after a hawker was crushed to death while selling along the road. Governor Ambode said the new street trade policy will help to stop unnecessary death of hawkers and the crimes they commit.

anti people. And I would like to urge the Lagos state government to
abrogate it immediately. If the Lagos state government is truely
concerned about the welfare and safety of those who hawk in traffic,
there are better ways to go about it. How can somebody in his or her
right senses just wake up and ban people's means of livelihood without
making alternative provision for them simply because he or she is
enjoying free money in a government office? It does not make sense. Most
laws made by the Lagos state government in this dispensation are bad
laws. This is why they find it difficult to enforce them. Imagine
