The voting of the 538-member Electoral College began in New Hampshire at 10 am , when the electors met at a statehood chamber and gave their four votes to Joe Biden. By Monday noon, battleground states including Arizona, Georgia and Pennsylvania, ground zero for many of President Donald Trump’s fruitless lawsuits, had backed Biden too.
Bill and Hillary Clinton in New York, along with 27 other electoral members, cast their votes to Biden.
His win was confirmed at around 5:30 pm when 55 electors of California backed Biden, to push him past the threshold of 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency, putting the official seal on his victory after weeks of efforts by Trump to use legal challenges and political pressure to overturn the results.
With the Electoral College vote behind him, Biden called for unity while forcefully denouncing the president and his allies for their assault on the nation’s voting system. You acquitted yourself very well in office and you proved yourself to be a man of peace and defender of humanity and the oppressed. You brought countries that were hitherto sworn enemies to a round table and they became friends. Even when America had plenty of reasons to go to war with Iran, when Iran took some provocative and needless actions against America, you chose the path of peace because of ordinary Iranians who might have suffered greatly had America chosen to bombard Iran with its fearsome, highly reliable and hi-tech military arsenal. You normalised relationship with countries like North Korea and Russia that America had frictional, frosty and cat and mouse relationship with before your emergence as the president and you became friends with their leaders and there was less tension in the world. You stood up against the terrorists that have been committing crimes against humanity worldwide and no terrorist dared to carry out an attack against America on American soil during your tenure. At the mention of the name, Donald Trump, the terrorists catch cold. I am not surprised that the terrorists and their sympathisers want you out of office. It may seem that the terrorists and their supporters have gotten what they wished for but who knows, the result of the just concluded American presidential election may be a divine arrangement that God has put in place for tougher times for the terrorists who have been committing crimes against humanity because God Almighty Himself said that the wicked shall not go unpunished. You worked for America and Americans as the president without collecting salaries. This is remarkable and unprecedented in the history of America. You must have stepped on toes in the course of running the affairs of America. But it is OK. You are human and you are not perfect. No one is perfect. Donald Trump, you distinguished yourself in office. You should hold your head high. The things you got right while in office are far greater than the things you got wrong. You deserve a good rest after working tirelessly for America. Enjoy your days ahead.
