How To Overcome Depression And Suicidal Thoughts

Image may contain: 2 people
Depression and suicide have always been viewed as a White man’s disease but it is becoming rampant in Nigeria. Nigerians are yet to accept the fact that someone can take his or her life because of unhappiness. Depression is real and has claimed so many lives.
The most recent which is on the lips of most people is the unfortunate incident that happened. Popular Nigerian Disc Jockey (DJ), Seun Omogaji known as DJ Xgee reportedly committed suicide in the new year, on 2nd of January 2019. There are reports that the Lagos-based DJ took sniper insecticide in the early hours of the morning due to some marital problems he has been having lately. His Wife allegedly packed out of their matrimonial home with her 2 kids.

You might be wondering why a promising young man would take his life but you would never know what was
going through his mind at that time. Most people are afraid of sharing their problems because we live in society were people turn serious issues into a joke. Someone talks about being depressed and instead of trying to help out, people start to mock the individual.
Depression is not just a word, it is very real. If you are battling depression or thinking of ending your life, just talking to the right person can go a long to help you.
If you are depressed, don't give up, it is just a temporary situation. There is hope. You can can reach out to Nigeria Suicide Prevention Initiative Hotline +234 806 210 6493.
Sit back and try to find the good in your life. Whatever it is, it is something worth finding. Return to this list regularly and continue to update it. In your initial recovery, it might have one or two things such as "my house" or "my spouse." Over time, it should grow as you start to experience the more joyful side of life again.
Replace unhappy thoughts with memories of happier times. You are always in control of what you're thinking about. Make the choice to prefer the positive, happier memories over the unhappy thoughts.
Remind yourself that recovery is possible. Many men have had similar thoughts and feelings about suicide, and survived – even men who have tried to take their lives multiple times have been able to recover.
Practice gratitude. Before you go to bed at night, think of five things for which you are grateful. Better yet, write them down. These can be common, everyday occurrences like seeing a beautiful sunset or learning something new or hearing your favorite song on the radio.
Suicidal ideation can occur when a person feels they are no longer able to cope with an overwhelming situation. This could stem from financial problems, unemployment, rejection, death of a loved one, a broken relationship, or a devastating or debilitating illness.
Talk to a spiritual leader. If you are religious (or even perhaps if you are not) and have access to a spiritual leader, try talking to him or her. Those called to religious ministry are trained in helping people in crisis, including those in despair and suicidal. He or she can help you ease the pain by offering a new perspective and giving you some things to think about.
Avoid being alone. If you are feeling suicidal, you should make sure that friends and family do not let you out of their sight. If you do not have anyone to watch over you, check yourself into an ER to make sure you are not alone. If you are part of a support group, lean on other members of your group for extra support from people who really understand what you’re going through
Do not think of suicide as a revenge strategy. Sometimes suicidal feelings are related to anger and resentment you feel toward others. Don't turn that anger inward.[18]
Hurting yourself won't help you really get back at anyone, and it is beyond not worth it. Instead, think about all you have to offer to the people you'll meet in the future.
Be bold and change the situations that are making you unhappy. Change schools. If all your friends are toxic, try to make new, true friends . Move out of wherever you are living. Leave an abusive relationship.
