Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari has opened the country's first metro-rail service in the capital Abuja - some eight years after the project was initiated. “The completion of this very important project is a dream come true,” Mr Buhari said during the opening ceremony.
“This accomplishment clearly demonstrates our commitment to addressing critical infrastructural projects,” he added.
Mr Buhari and other digntaries took a ride from the Abuja Metro Station to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. A second line runs between the central business district to northern neighbourhoods.
The entire metro system, comprising 290km (180 miles), is being built by a Chinese firm at a cost of $824m (£623), Bloomberg news agency quotes officials as saying.
It will cover the entire city and will be developed in six phases.

@Kiedzu; I think so, the Chinese firm handling the project will remain on ground to oversee the smooth operation and maintenance of the rail line. @Mary. Yeah. Up PMP

That's how every government should be. Government is a continuum. Not that a president will be doing a project and the succeeding one will not finish it. Though we're also contributing to that since many have been saying that all the projects PMB has been commissioning were started by previous leaders that he should tell us those he initiated and completed. Many of us just want to criticise without cogent point. I just pray that we have good leaders and may God make us patriots too

@Isiaq: Well said my brother, this act of PMB on Abuja rail is one of the best things he has done so far as president. It is a rare gesture in a politically divided society.
Priceless Precious Alli
NOTICE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. The Abuja Light Railway project today commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari is NOT an example of the present administration’ s delivering on its promises, as the President claimed today. That is factually incorrect. That is a project by the previous government. It was initiated by President Obasanjo and most of the work was completed by the Yar’adua and Jonathan regimes. Truth must be sacrosanct!, has he ever started anything before?
