Domestic and family violence is abusive or intimidating behaviour in a relationship. This relationship can be a partner, care giver or family member. It is also when one partner in an intimate relationship abuses the other. Many people think that Domestic Violence is only a physical assault that results in visible injuries to the victim. This is only one type of abuse.
The abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional or a combination of all three. It can be abuse by a man against a woman, or by a woman against a man. A father against a son, a mother hitting on her daughter, not caring for the family. …
In relationships; making threats regarding custody of any children, constantly comparing the victim with others to undermine their-esteem and self-worth, swearing and continual humiliation, in private or in public, locking the victim in or out of the house or rooms, making the victim perform sexual acts unwillingly, withholding medication, food or medical care, forcing the victim to sign documents or make false declarations.
There are alternatives to remaining in a violent situation. These include: shelters, counseling, protective orders, and safety planning.
The new Nollywood movie titled ‘’Midnight Sun’’ is geared towards exposing the ills of domestic violence, also to bring joy and unity in families/relationships.
Aaron Sunday, one of the major actors in the movie, in a brief media chat told Edeson Online News that ending domestic violence is a collective effort, everyone should be involved in the fight against it.
‘’Until they get it, we won't stop preaching against it and the dangers caused by it... Say No to domestic violence’’ he said.
The talented handsome actor, Aaron Sunday added that couples should understand themselves before getting married, it is lack of understanding most times that causes domestic violence.
