First gay church in Nigeria, House Of Rainbow, on the 2nd September celebrated their 10th Year Anniversary.
Jide Macaulay, Nigeria's first openly gay pastor founded the church on 2nd September 2006 with the slogan of rejected stones becoming the cornerstone and theme as Testimony, Grace & Glory.
Pastor Jide said for 10 years the church have been active creating safe spaces for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgender, Intersex and Queer people to worship, and celebrate God.
It may interest you to know that House of Rainbow Church has performed over 10 Same Sex weddings or blessings in the last decade in Africa and Europe and now include fellowship to Lesbian Christians and Muslims.
It would be recalled that in 2014, Nigerian senate passed a bill banning same-sex marriages, defying a threat from Britain to withhold aid from nations violating gay rights. The bill stipulates 14-year sentence for anyone convicted of homosexuality. Anyone who aids or “abets” same-sex unions faces 10 years in prison.
Now lets come back to the question: Is the Nigerian Same Sex Prohibition Law still effective? A Nigerian Gay church?
