Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, the Executive Secretary of the commission, made this known in Abuja earlier this week, when he received the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Dr Masaudu Kazaure.
According to Prof. Rasheed, only polytechnics had the statutory right to run diploma programmes, adding that the commission would soon notify universities to stop conducting the programmes.
It would be recalled, the NUC had announced a list of unaccredited courses in Nigerian universities.
The Commission had warned that any certificate issued for these courses will be considered void.

i see no reason why they should scrap Diploma in Universities. Other
Countries run Diploma programmes in University, Nigeria shouldn't be an
exception.

There
are programs for people who have waec... there are programs for people
who already have degrees.. there are PGD programs that qualify people
for masters degrees. It depends on the choice of the individual and
where he/she fits. It is sad that rather than each university being
autonomous to do what is right.. they are told to do what suits certain
people.
