CURRENT AFFAIRS: CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, Emerges President Of African Central Banks

The African Central Bank (ACB) is one of the three financial institutions of the African Union. Over time, it will take over responsibilities of the African Monetary Fund. ACB was first agreed upon in the 1991 Abuja
Treaty. When it is fully implemented via Pan-African Parliament legislation, the African Central Bank will be the sole issuer of the African Single Currency.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, has been elected as the President of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB). Emefiele, who was elected at the 39th Ordinary meeting of the Assembly of Governors of the AACB, will be president of the association for the year 2016 to 2017.

The 39th Ordinary meeting of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB) was held in Abuja and was attended by 27 member Central Banks and the African Union Commission (AUC).
