WEIRD NEWS: Bishop Desmond Tutu’s Lesbian Daughter Marries her Lesbian Lover

The daughter of Desmond Tutu has married her lesbian partner. Desmond Mpilo Tutu is a South African social rights activist and retired Anglican bishop who rose to worldwide fame during the 1980s as an opponent of apartheid. His daughter , Canon Mpho Tutu-Van Firth is also a pastor but has given up her Anglican church licence after marrying a woman. Rev Canon Mpho Tutu-Van Firth said that she had chosen to make a “dignified” exit rather than be stripped of her right to practice,

since the church does not recognise lesbian marriage.

The bishop of the (Cape Town) diocese was instructed to revoke her licence. She decided that she would give it to him rather than have him take it.

You may recall that same-sex marriage was legalised in South Africa in 2006, the South African Anglican law on marriage states: “Holy matrimony is the lifelong and exclusive union between one man and one woman.”
