The Super Eagles of Nigeria will battle against the Black
Stars of Ghana, as president Goodluck Jonathan opens Uyo Stadium November 7, 2014. Ghana
will face African champions, Nigeria in an international friendly on 7
November. The game, which will be played in Uyo, will be used to officially
open the newly built Akwa Ibom International Stadium. The 30,000 seating
capacity stadium which looks very much like the Soccer City in Johannesburg,
South Africa is second to none in the West African sub-region.
Nigeria last met Ghana in a competitive game in the semifinals of the African
Nations Championship (CHAN) hosted by South Africa in January and the Black
Stars ran away with a 4-1 victory after penalty shoot out. That game ended
goalless in duration time.
However, unlike the clash in Bloemfontein, which was for home-based
players only, the November 7 clash between the rivals will feature the full
compliment of both sides national teams in an event, which will be laced with
cultural dance, music and total entertainment.
Both countries will be using the game as part of preparations for their 2015
Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Uganda and Congo respectively.
The Black Stars currently sit in first place of 2015 Afcon qualifying above
Togo, Uganda and Guinea.
