Reports making the rounds say Chelsea star John Obi Mikel assaulted a
female journalist who asked him for an interview while on international
duty with Nigeria. Mikel was apparently leaving a training session with
his national team when the reporter from KISS FM in Abuja
approached
him. She is said to have asked the Blues midfielder for an interview to
discuss Nigeria’s forthcoming matches but an irritated Mikel then lashed
out and started abusing her, beats her up if not for timely
intervention of people around, Mikel would have injured the inquisitive
journalist.
The details were reported by BBC broadcaster
Oluwashina Okeleji, who says that the journalist has since forgiven
Mikel for the incident. It’s not the first time this week that Mikel was
involved in trouble with the media, with sports writer Colin Udoh
tweeting that he’d been verbally abused while asking questions.
