… 18 Secondary School Students arrested for cultism in Ogun State…

No fewer than 18 teenagers in two public secondary schools in Ogun State have been arrested by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, for cultism and breach of peace.

The Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Kareem Olanrewaju, who disclosed this to newsmen in Abeokuta, yesterday, said seven of the students were arrested at Nazareth High School in Imeko in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of the State while 11 were nabbed at Lisabi High School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
According to Olanrewaju, the seven secondary school students arrested in Imeko were caught while they were initiating some students into cultism on Tuesday while the 11 students of LisabiHigh School were apprehended, yesterday.
“These seven students of Nazareth were arrested at the school premises while they were initiating new members into cultism by making incisions on their bodies .
“We also arrested 11 students of LisabiHigh School for conducting themselves in a way that breached peace in the School.”
Asked if the command would charge them to court for the alleged crime, the NSCDC spokesman said the students would not be charged to court because of their age, which he described as non-prosecutable .
He said: “We will not charge them to court because of their age. They are underaged and cannot be prosecuted. The command will meet with the Ministry of Education in the state to decide what to do to with them.”
“We observed that, they have been misguided, now that they have been caught , there is need to guide them, we will give them right knowledge.
“We want the government to introduce Civic Education in secondary schools so as to reduce the level of these immorality amongst our Children .
“We have discovered in the cause of our investigation that parents are not contributing enough to better the future of their Children, rather they have devoted much of the time to other things.
