Governor Chibuike Amaechi Cries OUT ! "“I Will not succumb to blackmail”

RIVERS State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has promised to protect the resources of the state, despite pressure from some people “to grab the wealth of the state”.

The governor spoke on Tuesday at the Government House in Port Harcourt when he received delegates from LST, a German firm that had agreed to build 1,000 low cost housing units within six months in the state.

Amaechi, who was reacting to insinuations that he had been “playing God”, said it was “blackmail”.

He said, “Have I behaved in manner that showed I am God? The greatest problem we have in Rivers is the attempt by a few people to grab the wealth of the state.

“But whether they blackmail me or not; whether they say I am playing God or not, I will continue to protect the resources of the state. I will not allow anybody to blackmail me to take a wrong decision.”

On the new housing scheme, the governor described it as “pro-people”, expressing his optimism that the amount that would be paid for one housing unit would not exceed N3m.

He also promised that his administration would not allow the rich to hijack his administration’s housing scheme, adding that the poor and middle-class would be expected to pay at installment after the completion of the housing units.

The governor said government was partnering with a firm known as ZWH to run vocational schools, saying, “All these should be able to commence in March, 2013″.

Amaechi apologised to the people of the state for not fulfilling his promise on regular power supply by December 2012, attributing the development to two faulty power plants belonging to the state.

He promised that the people of the state would soon begin to experience regular electricity supply, adding that the power plants had since been repaired.

  • Jesse Osayande Vucinic Oh he is such a loving man. Who cares bout the state. Am sure he has not grabbed the wealth of the state only protecting it. False. A liar. Everyone in politics wants to grab the wealth they can.
