Commercial BUS kills student in LASU

CAMPUS NEWS:

---Commercial BUS kills student in LASU---

The killing of Hunjah Mausi,  a  student of  Lagos State University,  by a commercial bus   sparked anger  at the school on Monday.

However, the intervention of the Students’ Union leaders prevented the students from a violent protest.

Our correspondent learnt that Mausi, a 200 level  chemistry student, was killed on Saturday while  returning from the post office  near LASU.

It was learnt that the driver of the commercial bus was driving  against traffic when he hit the student.

It was learnt  that she was first rushed to a hospital at Igando before she was transferred to another hospital at Ikeja where she was confirmed dead. She is expected to  be buried on Tuesday (today).

The source  said, “There was tension in the  school in morning as some of our colleagues vowed to stage a  protest. They said they would damage any bus plying the wrong route or driving against traffic.

“We were  scared but  thank God for the intervention of the union leaders.”

The Public Relations Officer, LASU, Mr. Stephen Adeleke, lamented the death of the student, saying it was a “disheartening and painful”.

He said, “It  is  disheartening to experience such a loss.  But we leave everything to God. We heard that she was crossing the road with her friends when the accident occurred.

“We are law-abiding  citizens and do not want any form of protest. We sincerely sympathise with her family and hope that God will give them the fortitude  to bear the loss. We also urge the students to bear the loss and avoid any form of crisis.”

Adeleke said the driver of the bus had been arrested by the police.
