Copyright Society of Nigeria, COSON, has reached an out of court settlement with Silverbird Communications Limited over non-payment of royalties to artistes whose works are being used on its television and radio stations and all their entertainment outlets. COSON had filed a multi-million naira suit in July against Silverbird, alleging that it failed to pay royalties to artistes. At a briefing in Lagos, Chairman of COSON, Chief Tony Okoroji, announced its formal withdrawal, stating that both parties have reached an understanding on the payment of the royalties.Group President of Silverbird Communications, Mr. Guy Murray-Bruce, explained that its organisation delayed in payment of the royalties because it was waiting for the real group to be appointed the Collective Management Organisation, CMO.
He expressed delight that the mandate fell on COSON.
