Reports say the American porn industry endorses Barrack Obama overwhelmingly as US president in the forthcoming election. When members were asked "What candidate would you like elected President," out of 339, 68% said Barrack Obama, 13% Romney, 14% "someone else" and 5% "I don't care." A big player in the porn industry Steven Hirsch, Vivid Entertainment CEO, said: "The results aren't really surprising because most people involved with the adult industry have a liberal view of government and how it should work.” Hirsch said.“Social issues are more important than fiscal issues and they will support a candidate who shares their beliefs."
Reason.com comments that it is easy to understand why the porn industry is so anti-Romney. Romney has declared that "current laws on all forms of pornography and obscenity need to be vigorously enforced,"
According to The Huffington Post, Morality in Media, a conservative organization that opposes pornography and indecency, said earlier this year that Mitt Romney has pledged that if elected he would direct the Department of Justice to prosecute porn producers for obscenity violations.
But as Los Angeles Times notes, the porn industry's endorsement of Obama is unlikely be one his campaign will tout in its commercials.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Patrick Trueman, president of Morality Media, says that the Department of Justice under the Obama administration has not enforced federal laws prohibiting the distribution of hardcore pornography. He said: “The porn industry is flourishing because the Obama administration has given it a green light to distribute hardcore porn to every man, woman, and child in America."
