Mo Ibrahim launches 2012 Index of African Governance: Mo Ibrahim Award is the largest individual award in the world


The Mo Ibrahim Foundation will, on Monday 15 October, launch the 2012 Ibrahim Index of African Governance and announce the decision of the independent Prize Committee on awarding the Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership.
The Ibrahim Prize is conferred by the Committee to a democratically elected African Head of State or government who has demonstrated exceptional
leadership, served his or her constitutionally mandated term and left office in the last three years. It is the largest individual award in the world – worth US$5 million over ten years and US$200,000 a year for life.

Established in 2007,the Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) provides an annual assessment of governance performance in every African country.

Funded and led by an African institution, and consisting of 88 indicators drawn from 23 independent international data providers, the IIAG is the most comprehensive collection of data on African governance.
The launch will be attended by the following members of the Foundation Board including Mo Ibrahim, Founder, Celtel International; Lord Cairns, Former Chairman, Actis Capital LLP and former Chief Executive Officer, SG Warburg; Nathalie Delapalme, Director of Research and Policy, Mo Ibrahim Foundation and former Advisor on Africa and Development Issues to various French Foreign Ministers;
