Uber President Jeff Jones Resigns Over Sex Scandals & Leadership Crisis

Uber Technologies Inc. is a transportation network company headquartered in San Francisco, California, operating in 528 cities worldwide. It develops, markets and operates the Uber car transportation and food delivery mobile apps.
Uber drivers use their own personal cars, although drivers can rent a car to drive with Uber. Uber was founded in 2009 as UberCab by Garrett Camp, the cofounder of StumbleUpon, and Travis Kalanick.

On Wednesday July 23, 2014, Uber launched its smartphone technology in Lagos, Nigeria making it the fourth city in Africa. Uber’s smartphone app allows users to connect to licensed private drivers in the area at the touch of a button, using the phone’s GPS to detect both the users and drivers’ locations. This means the people of Lagos can get a safe, reliable ride anywhere — even if they don’t know the exact address.

However, Uber’s sexual harassment case is the latest controversy in a long history of the ride-sharing company flouting regulations. A couple of weeks ago, former Uber engineer, Susan Fowler came forward about her experience with sexual harassment at the company. She talked about being sexually harassed by her manager. Fowler stated that when she approached Human Resources for help, she was ignored repeatedly. Fowler was later informed by another manager that she could potentially be fired for reporting the incident. The company has hired former US attorney general Eric Holder to investigate the claims.

Mr Jeff Jones the president of Uber has just resigned. He was frustrated the company was hiring a new chief operating officer and that he was not among the candidates. Some sources say Mr Jones left because of Uber's continued struggle with issues around sexism and sexual harassment at the firm.

In response to his resignation, Uber said in a statement on Sunday: "We want to thank Jeff for his six months at the company and wish him all the best." Privately, however, the company has been shocked by his sudden departure, with other executives left disappointed at what they saw as a lack of professional courtesy in informing them of his plans.
