Olugbenga Ashiru, former minister of foreign affairs, has died in a South African hospital after a long battle with illness. The career diplomat, credited with re-energising Nigeria’s presence in international diplomacy in the post-Olusegun Obasanjo era, died on Saturday. BUSINESS NEWS: Dangote Refinery To Start Production In 2018

AN oil refinery, being promoted by Dangote Group, is expected to come on-stream latest by the first half of 2018, in Lagos. The plant will be able to process 500,000 barrels of crude a day, according to Dangote Industries’ operations director for petroleum refining, George Nicolaides, in an interview at the Platts African Refining Summit in Cape Town Monday.

“The site is being cleared, the plant is being designed,” Nicolaides said, adding that the organization is “close to the beginning of detailed engineering.”

Man Sentenced to 6 Days Community Service for Stealing Pot of Soup in Lagos

A Somolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Monday sentenced a 28- year-old man, Abiodun Ojedokun, to six days of community service for stealing a large pot of soup.The Magistrate, Bola Osunsanmi, sentenced the convict to 48 hours of community service for each of the three-count charge, after he had pleaded guilty to them.
