On Saturday US, British and French forces pounded chemical weapons sites in Syria with air strikes in response to an alleged poison gas attack that killed dozens in the rebel-held town of Douma last week.
In a televised address to the nation, Mr Trump said the three nations had "marshalled their righteous power against barbarism and brutality".
The air strikes were the biggest intervention by Western powers against President Bashar al-Assad in the country's seven-year-old civil war, which has pitted the US and its allies against Russia.

@Ahile: yeah, Russia isnt happy about the western invasion. In response to the Western strikes, Russia threatened to give Syria and other allies its advanced S-300 surface-to-air missiles. Like you said, I hope it doesnt lead to WORLD WAR 3

I'm interested to know the truth in Trump's claim of Syrian government poisoning its own citizens... If true what could a government possibly gain by doing such? I feel Trump is just flexing his muscles

The west reduced Libya to rumbles by arming rebel citizens against Gadafi and finally killing him; they almost did same in Nigeria through BH, Fulani herdsmen, etc.; they succeeded in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, etc.; and now they are fuelling Syrian dissidents against Assad.
Assad knew and still knows that those rebels are fully armed and funded by the west because of their selfish interest in their resources.
Putin knows what the White House really want.
He will give it to them.
Same thing that almost happened between China and Crimea, where Russia swiftly reacted by annexing Crimea.
The western powers, not excluding Israel are drumming for WW3.
There can be a negotiation between Assad and Syrian rebels, but are they ever ready? Why? Because they have the backing of the western powers.
If Buhari hadn't used the military against Biafran dissidents to quell their agitations, Nigeria would've been in an unpeaceful and inequilibristic

And nobody shells their plants.

However, war is always a transcending tragedy, most especially when it is civil.
Assad should do all within his power to end this hepta-lasting war in his country!
