TODAY in HISTORY: 40 YEARS AFTER: Murtala Muhammed was Killed in a Bloody Coup in 1976

Murtala Muhammed was the Military Head of States of Nigeria between 1975 and 1976. He was assassinated just 200 days in office through a bloody coup It was alleged that he ordered the execution of Biafran prisoners of war and also help Nigeria win the Civil war. Today marks the 40 years of the death of General Murtala Muhammed He was Born on November 8, 1938, Kano Assassinated on February 13, 1976, in Lagos by Dimka Coup.

He was Succeeded by General Olusegun Obasanjo.
