KOGI TRAGEDY/ELECTION: REVEALED ! Abubakar Audu Actually Died Before INEC Declared Kogi Election Inconclusive

Yesterday, Abubakar Audu of APC, was already waiting to be declared the winner of Kogi election, instead he was declared dead. Edeson Online News has learnt from reliable sources that INEC officials knew of Mr. Audu’s death before they announced the results of the election inconclusive on Sunday. Our source added that the move by INEC to declare the election inconclusive was to prevent Yoruba man who is the deputy to AUDU to become the governor of Kogi State. They said the Yoruba man was choosing by Bola Tinubu
to be deputy to Audu. If INEC had announced Audu winner, by now, his deputy will prepare to be sworn in... then, a Yoruba man will become the governor of Kogi State.
Relatives of late Audu Abubukar told Edeson Online News that he suffered heart-related illness for a long time before he died on Sunday. He fell ill, vomited blood, slumped and died after casting his vote yesterday. Incumbent governor of Kogi, Idris Wada, has declared 7 days mourning. Prince Abubakar Audu will be buried today in line with muslim rites.

WHAT THE LAW SAYS:
The death of Abubakar Audu, Kogi State APC Governorship Candidate, yesterday, has called for the review of the Nigeria’s constitution and Electoral Acts to ensure that all circumstances are captured.
According to the present Electoral Act, if a candidate dies before an election, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is obligated to postpone the election and choose a date for election within 14 days.

But no provision is made if a candidate dies during election like what happened to Abubakar Audu in Kogi State. However, people are of the view that the Deputy to late Abubakar Audu should replace him for the polls or another candidate should be chosen to represent APC.
It should be noted that , after the demise of a governor, Nigeria law stipulates that the deputy can only ascend to the authentic governor if he has been sworn-in alongside the governor. Unfortunately, the Kogi election was declared inconclusive before Abubakar Audu’s death, as no winner was announced by INEC.

It would be recalled that INEC has already cancelled results of 59 polling units from 18 of the 21 Local Government Areas of the State.
