INSIDE LAGOS: Governor Ambode Set To Get Okada Riders Off Lagos Roads Again

MY VIEW:: “ I knew this will happen; during the 2015 elections I was a keen observer of strategies politicians were using to lure voters. Infact, I took out time to move around Lagos, I noticed that Ambode was jovial to everyone. I was opportuned to see him taking a photograph with okada men at Omowu Odofin area of Lagos. The Okada riders were very happy to meet him, I seriously laughed out loud on my mind because ‘Ambo’ as he is fondly called will one day turn his back on them and my thoughts were right. Though, it’s good to check the excesses of these okada men in Lagos, if he doesn’t like the idea of “Okada thing” in Lagos, why not kick against it during your campaigns.” – Endy Edeson.

The Lagos State Government has made its intention known that Okada riders will from now hence forth stop plying major roads in the State. While speaking yesterday, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Oluseyi Coker had noted that the riders were restricted from 475 routes out of the 9,100 roads in Lagos in 2012 but they soon came back.

He says the fresh restriction is a renewed attempt to check their excesses. He also frowned at the rate the riders have been flouting the traffic law of the state, saying that government would no longer fold its hands and allow the impunity to continue.

He further explained that the ban would benefit citizens, stating that since it was banned in 2012 the state has witnessed over 81% reduction in the number of motorcycle-related accidents and over 80% reduction in motorcycle-related deaths reported at public hospitals.

@orlorcal: i'm not against the ban but what i'm saying is that he shouldn't have "romanced" the okada men during his campaigns if he knew he was going to take them off
