Here Are  Top 10 Of The Greatest African Leaders Whose Legacies History Will Always Remember, Along With Their Countries Of Origin.

But; why is there no Nigerian in the list?

1. Nelson Mandela – South Africa
- Fought apartheid, spent 27 years in prison, became the first Black president of South Africa in 1994.
- Symbol of peace, forgiveness, and democracy.

2. Kwame Nkrumah – Ghana
- Led Ghana to independence in 1957 (first in sub-Saharan Africa).
- Champion of Pan-Africanism and unity across Africa.

3. Haile Selassie I – Ethiopia
- Emperor of Ethiopia (1930–1974).
- Resisted Italian colonization, symbol of African independence and pride.

4. Julius Nyerere – Tanzania
- Led Tanganyika to independence and united it with Zanzibar to form Tanzania.
- Promoted African socialism (Ujamaa) and education.

5. Thomas Sankara – Burkina Faso
- Revolutionary leader (1983–1987).
- Advocated for anti-corruption, women’s rights, and self-reliance.

6. Patrice Lumumba – Democratic Republic of Congo
- First Prime Minister after independence (1960).
- Pan-Africanist who opposed colonialism and was assassinated for it.

7. Robert Mugabe – Zimbabwe
- Led liberation war against white minority rule.
- First Prime Minister of Zimbabwe in 1980 (later controversial for authoritarian rule).

8. Samora Machel – Mozambique
- Led the fight against Portuguese colonial rule.
- First president of independent Mozambique (1975).

9. Ahmed Sékou Touré – Guinea
- Refused French control in 1958, making Guinea the first French colony to gain independence.
- Strong voice for African sovereignty.

10. John Garang – Sudan/South Sudan
- Leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army.
- Key figure in the eventual independence of South Sudan (2011).
