See The First Person In The World To Receive Two Facial Transplants

The first person in the world to receive two facial transplants says he is feeling well, three months after his latest groundbreaking operation. Jérôme Hamon had his first transplanted face removed last year after signs of rejection following a treatment with an incompatible antibiotic during a cold.

The 43 year old remained in a hospital in Paris without a face for two months while a compatible donor was sought. He said: "The first [face] I accepted immediately. This time it's the same." Mr Hamon suffers from neurofibromatosis type 1, a genetic condition that caused severe disfiguring tumours on his face.

His first transplant, in 2010, was a success, but he caught a common cold in 2015 and was given antibiotics. The drug was incompatible with the immunosuppressive treatment he was having to prevent a rejection of the transplanted material.
The first signs of rejection came in 2016 and last November, the face, suffering from necrosis, had to be removed.

His new face remains smooth and motionless, and his skull, skin and features are yet to be fully aligned. But he is positive about his recovery.

"If I hadn't accepted this new face it would have been terrible. It's a question of identity... But here we are, it's good, it's me," he told AFP news agency from the hospital, where he is still recovering.
"I'm 43 and the donor was 22 so I'm 22 again," he told French TV.

That's a good question. I have to get the fact ASAP @Ebah

Johnson Ahile

The man looks like he is dead already. scientists with their experiments

Endy Edeson

@Ahile; His face is motionless now until he fully recovers that's why he looks dead

Anita Okonkwo

very strange. hmmm

John Asukwo

All things being equal, he had survived the first face transplant and is, too, surviving this one.

It means medical and surgical science is evolving and advancing technologically, but at a pace where artificial remedies may replace or substitute natural remedies.

His operation that gives him a motionless face after 90days which is yet to align with the his skull, hair and skin will surely give him certain side effects, if not now, in the near future.

Assuming he gets so bankrupt that he can't even afford the compatible medication to that new operated face-lift, what will become of him?
As a disadvantage, modern medicine procedures require a lot of money.

Additionally, the person whose face was lifted onto this man may have been newly pronounced dead patient; and this is the secret of medicine, I suspect.
Albeit, if facial transplant works perfectly okay today, then our Obasanjo must hear this: we are tired of Aso Rock-bred chimps.
The beautiful ones must be born now, not yet.

@John; Well said. But Obasanjo is a handsome man, he does not need a new face. 😎

John Asukwo

Yes... he's a handsome man; but he needs a new face in 2019, else he'd be booed.
I mean Obasanjo as Buhari.

Generally, Nigeria political system needs a new face, not only by a transplant, but also by the unity of our PVCs against the current draconian dispensation.

That said, the team of doctors for this operation is our singleness of mind, period.
