There is an online platform where you can check the status of your identity card using the following simple steps:
1. Visit NIMC center: https://touch.nimc.gov.ng/
2. Then click the proceed button
3. Now, fill in your first name, last name and your Naitional Identification Number and hit the ‘check now button’.
I just checked mine now.

Even banks that have advance security features on their atm card is done and issued within 24hrs, it's only government things that are different. I sometimes ask the difference between the national ID and ATM card..?

If you are wondering where to get National Identification Number (NIN). It's actually on your temporary card they issued to you after registration.
See the scanned copy of my own Temporary National ID Card attached to the comment and find the NIN (Though, I blocked it because it's a sensitive info). Make sure you still have the temporary card. Check out the Red arrow I placed and trace the last 6 digits of the NIN number on your own card. That's all
If it is available or not, the system will tell you.
