Beer is an alcoholic beverage, but it can also be classified as food. Some religious folks don't take alcohol as it is against their doctrines. Former Pope, Benedict XVI, a prominent religious leader in the world has been buzzing online for drinking beer during his 90th birthday.
He was regarded the first Pope to make his resignation intentions known to the cardinals due to “lack of strength of mind and body.” Pope Benedict XVI made this pronouncement on February 11, 2013, while the resignation proper occurred on February 28, 2013. Other popes before him either resigned or were forced to do so. Though retired, Pope Benedict is still referred to as His Holiness, as he keeps the designation of Pope and still wears the papal colour of white. On March 13, 2013, the current Pope Francis took over office from him
During his 90th birthday, Benedict sipped the beer alongside his brother, Mgr Georg Ratzinger. The retired pontiff was born on April 16, 1927, in southern Germany. But since the birthday coincided this year with Easter Sunday, the occasion was celebrated on Monday.

@Obanla: he is enjoying himself without limit. way to go Pope ! @Mickey: Are religious books not against taking beer or alcohol?
Oga Mickey
The Bible is not against drinking alcohol but is against drunkenness... Same way, the Bible is not against eating but is against gluttony
Endy Edeson
@Roseline: without limit, I mean without considering what other religious groups think about taking alcohol
Justina Kwaor
Where is it written in d Bible dat "Thou shal nt drink alcohol'?Nigeri ans! Sum of us be claiming to be more pious than dis white people that brought Christianity to Nigeria.
Endy Edeson
@Justina: What God commands Christians regarding alcohol is to avoid drunkenness (Ephesians 5:18). So Christians are allowed to sip alcohol, beer and wine
Jennifer Ogoo Okolo
The catholic church is not against taking beer or alcohol. Even the wine for Holy mass is highly alcoholic, reason they always dilute it well.
Endy Edeson
@Jenniffer: interesting. you sound like you are a Catholic church member. Other religious groups forbids alcohol in totality despite God's direction on it
Oloyede Ogundepo
Endy Evening. I beggy, who is fooling who? Am very sure that this is not is first time of taking beer
Endy Edeson
@Oloyede: Goodevening my brother. Yeah: like Jennifer rightly said, it's normal in Catholic Church for members to take alcohol
Oloyede Ogundepo
Endy dat is catholic. Pope is representing Christians head person nt jst a Christian. Even if he wnt to, i think it shld nt be as much as ds quantity nd nt in public. Bcos pple will wnt to abuse it
Godwin Epu
You said pope is the head of Christian?
Hmmmmm
Then why some Christian don't believe in his teaching?
Hmmmmm
Then why some Christian don't believe in his teaching?
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
What? Has the Pope overfed in public? Don't people overfeed? And doesn't the bible condemn it? So the Pope taking alcohol will make a lot go into drinking? People abuse stuffs even when they don't know or see anyone that has
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
No one is cept Christ. Pope is the head of all Catholics. How can you say the Pope represents Christians all over when the Churches doesn't all agree and aren't under the same umbrella?
Godwin Epu
Simple @ Jesse....👍👍
Endy Edeson
OLOYEDE: You are right. The Pope display of alcohol in public will encourage many Christians to take alcohol and if it's not with caution might lead to drunkenness
St Aafe
U condem bear drinking, but u work in Nigeria brewery n use d money to pay tithe abi? Continue!!!
Jennifer Ogoo Okolo
Now pope is the head of christiandom but all of you are the ones that will be quick to insult catholics and their doctrine... Pls allow us and our pope (emeritus) to be "catholic"
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
So deciding Easter means Pope is the head of Christians? An Easter that not all Churches celebrate? Common
Jennifer Ogoo Okolo
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina Pope Benedict is the 265 and Pope Francis is the 266 in the line of the first Christian leader St Peter who Jesus handed over the church
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
So says Catholic doctrine. Why then do other churches don't agree with that? Christ is the head of all churches not the Pope. We will go back and forth with this but the truth remains that Peter was with Christ and he wasn't Catholic nor was Christ.
Jennifer Ogoo Okolo
Why did APC leave PDP to form their party? They don't agree with PDP anymore and also for selfish reasons
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Hahahaha. Tinubu left PDP? Buhari did? The APC founding members were not of the PDP folk. Those joined in later.
Jennifer Ogoo Okolo
Lol... my point is that most churches who formed theirs left from the catholic church
Endy Edeson
@Jesse & Jennifer: hahahahaha. I can't stop laughing. The question and answer here is quite EPIC. That is why I am advocating for the unification of religious doctrines.
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Sorry but that's a lie. Catholic church started when? The church was established in Christ and by Christ so saying churches sprang up from leaving the Catholic church is not true. Peter wasn't a Catholic. People need to get that. If Peter was considered a Catholic then what was Christ?
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Endy, there can never be a unification. Not when the Catholics believe they're the founders of Christianity. If you wait on churches to guide you then you'll be lost. Unify with Christ and you'll see the light
Endy Edeson
JESSE: You are right. In that case, personal doctrines should be adopted instead of contrasting doctrines.
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Hahahaha. That's what you were told? I see. No wonder there's a lot of splinters in Christianity
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Endy, the only unifying doctrine is that Christ is the head of the church. And living a Christlike like is the only way. Nothing else. That's speaking from a Christian perspective
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Jennifer, okay. Got that. For me, I do not care bout doctrines that contradicts. I have a lot of issues with the Bible as it is already. That's a story for another day
Jennifer Ogoo Okolo
Anyway, pastors will say anything to entice their followers... But you and I know that Catholic is the first church before church of England and the rest left. That you don't agree with the doctrine doesn't mean you will hide behind the truth.
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Nope. I don't know. Why? Cos Christ wasn't Catholic. Peter wasn't. If one says Catholic is the most popular and widely regarded as the first church then I can grab that but no one can say for a fact that it was the first church cos no one was born then and a lot of centuries has passed for anyone to have full authority on that. BTW, I don't care much for pastors. A lot say things that don't mesh with the Bible they preach by
Jennifer Ogoo Okolo
Christ handed the church to Peter when he said in "Matt 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Laughable. How come he never mentioned it in his book? Ironic eh? He never inferred that also. So where's the lie coming from? Yea, we both know
Jennifer Ogoo Okolo
Peter was ordained by Jesus in the "Rock of My Church" dialogue in Matthew 16:18. ... The ancient Christian churches all venerate Peter as a major saint and as founder of the Church of Antioch and the Roman Church,
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Peter wasn't a pope. Only Catholics believes that. And BTW, I will state again the Church wasn't conferred on Peter. Jesus himself is the foundation of the Church and is the rock the Church is built on, not Peter.
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Jennifer, pls, read the preceding verses before the "rock" talk cos you'll understand better then. Pls do but even if you do I suspect the interpretation will still not be in line for obvious reasons. The Church was founded on Christ not anyone
Jennifer Ogoo Okolo
Pope is the head of christiandom. Other contrary opinion are usually from anti - catholic Christians. But that doesn't change the supremacy and authority of Christianity from the Vatican 😃
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Hahahaha. Well, its the burden we bear
Endy Edeson
@Jennifer: I think Christians should find a way to have a unified doctrine. Most religious problems are as a result of contrast in believe. @Aafe: I don't recommend small alcohol to person who's health isn't okay to take it.
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
One thing, the Bible isn't against alcohol. Anyone that says otherwise should prove it with what the scripture says. What the Bible is against is getting drunk. And whether one likes it or not that's the line the Bible drew.
Endy Edeson
@Jesse: even if bible endorsed bible, people should be aware of their health. Even a sip of alcohol can be dangerous to one's health if it is not compatible with the person
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Endy, that I understand but when people that use the Bible as a defence make it seem like the book condemns it is an outright lie. The Bible never condemned the art at all but drunkenness. The Bible also condemns gluttony but do we hear churches preach against that? You talk about a sip not being compatible with someone? I don't think I've ever heard of someone that sipped and had issues. Maybe it has happened but even some food aren't compatible with some people but does that mean we should start saying food is bad?
Endy Edeson
@Jesse: I am not saying taking a sip of alcohol is bad, my stand is on personal health. It cut across food and other beverages. Just like you stated, despite how sweet and nutritious a particular food is, if is not compatible on one's body, such food should be totally be avoided
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Endy, based on personal health people can avoid a lot of things. If its bad for your health then do but I do not like it when Pastors claim authority on it saying the Bible forbids it. Jesus did turn water to wine and it wasn't fruit wine cos Jewish custom demands alcohol at weddings. Also, the Bible was clear when it talked about "wine" saying it intoxicates. So if the wine Jesus turned water to wasn't alcoholic why then didn't the Bible use another language since "wine" intoxicates.
Onuh Jude
Moreover catholic church is the mother church of all other. Everything other churches does revolves around the decision of mother church and in this regard Pope is the head of the Christianity @Jesse
Onuh Jude
Jesse you are just being too logical without paying attention to some reality. I can tell you the history of catholic church, when it started and how other churches including yours sprang up from it. Not what you was told but reality. Let me charge my phone for the main time.
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
Endy, the history will be based on what Catholics say. There's also history of what the Orthodox church says. The main thing is why people believe Catholic is the first church on earth cos it wasn't. They can't prove that with certainty other than what they were told by the same church.
