The quest for power by some powerful people often leads to the death and misfortune of many innocent persons. What happened in Turkey recently is not a fairy tale to Nigerians because we have witness coup
in the past. To avoid further loss of lives in Nigeria, democracy was introduced. Despite the end of military coups in Nigeria, some minority groups still want to grip power by all means, though, not by coup plot. These minority groups claim to be marginalized and has asked for self-government
Turkey is a country currently facing coup plots, at a time the world is moving towards peace and unity. On Friday, a faction of the Turkish Army leadership launched a failed military coup against the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, over 200 people were killed and about 1,500 were injured. Turkey has a long history of military coups. The first took place in 1960, after the government tried to reverse the country's secular system and impose press restrictions.
One of the reasons the Coup was plotted by a faction of the army was because the Turkish president is not in good terms with them (army). The President suspects that many in the army are close to a radical Islamic Preacher Fethullah Gulen as a result of which he has jailed many officers. Secondly, Many Turkish citizens accuse the president of trying to centralise the power around him, and thirdly, most people in Turkey have complained about the laws that are being passed to enforce Islamic values. A large number of people and officials still prefer secular values.
Fethullah Gülen was an ally of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan before 2013. The alliance was destroyed after alleged 2013 corruption investigations in Turkey. Erdogan accused Gülen of being behind the corruption investigations.
Turkish President accused Fethullah Gulen (who is currently in exile in USA) of masterminding the coup and he is demanding that the US extradite him. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has also stated that any country that stands by the Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen will not be a friend of Turkey and will be considered at war with them.
However, Nigeria president, today, joined President Barrack Obama and other world leaders in vehemently condemning the failed coup attempt in Turkey. Also, the editor of Edeson Online News, Mr. Endy Edeson has called for harmony in Nigeria and around the world, noting that violence can not give birth to peace.

Erdogan
had it coming. He's veered from the foundation of Turkey. He's moving
them away from a secular state to an Islamic state which angers the Army
and his stance on sponsoring terrorists doesn't sit well with them.
Another attempt will be made if he doesn't change and it will be
successful.

@jesse: i think Turkish president should listen to his people. Unpopular policies plunges a nation into anarchy.
Jesse Osayande Vucinic Ehiagwina
He's a terrible man. He's been seeking more powers for his office which this coup attempt will help in that regard.

If it happens in Nigeria only a purging would do. If a purging isn't done then there's no hope.

Violence
can not give birth to peace but is necessary at times, we can only live
in peace when our leaders keep doing the right not with nonsense we
practice here in Nigeria.
