VIEW POINT: Britain Departure from European Union, Lesson Nigeria & Biafran People Should Learn

Nigerians woke up today with the news of Brexit ( the Departure of Britain from European Union ) but not many Nigerians have pondered on the lessons learnt from the peaceful separation. The British people through
a referendum voted themselves out of E.U. Nigerians, especially “Biafrans” should learn from this scenario that change is best effected through evolution and not revolution. I am sorry to say this, Biafra can never be actualized through Revolution. I am not in support of the Biafrans and I am not also against them. My point is, whatever any group in Nigeria wants, they should put down their reasons, if possible there could be a referendum in favour of them.

David Cameron resigned as prime minister after Britain voted to leave the European Union. Mr. Cameroon wanted Britain to remain in E.U . He knew he can't continue leading them following their departure in the European Union. David Cameron put pride behind and did what he felt was best for the country not like our own country where our leaders like saraki will sit tight in the midst of corruption charges against him.

British withdrawal from the European Union, also known as Brexit is a political goal that was pursued by various individuals, advocacy groups, and political parties since the United Kingdom (UK) joined the precursor of the European Union (EU) in 1973. Withdrawal from the European Union is a right of EU member states under Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union

This is not the first time a referendum was conducted to decide the withdrawal or members of Britian with European Union. In 1975, a referendum was held, 67% voted in favour of the country's continued membership of E.U. The UK electorate again addressed the question on 23 June 2016, in a referendum on the country's membership 51.9% voted in support of an exit

Guys, what do you think?

@Edeson, I follow your write ups. You av always been biased about dis issue of Biafra and dia agitations. But i refuse to keep quite just like Aisha my sister. I want to avoid imposters. let me say it and take responsibility of the ones i said. l and sis Aisha must avoid impostors

Ezenwa Okorocha Peculiar

Now let me continue, You can never write off agitations. Even what you r doing now, if well analysed could be agitation. Even in your Father's house you agitate. Many countries seceded through agitations, get ur facts well

Endy Edeson

@peculiar: i only used Biafra as a case study. am not against Biafra. In cotemporary world, voilent agitation don't yield fruits to desired goals. people can pull out from the center without having problems with the center.

Ezenwa Okorocha Peculiar

When sb agitates, You look into what what he is agitating for and see if you can solve through raw jaws. Extra judicial killings will fuel it the more and you must not have it in your constitution before you agitate for secession. Mind You it is called Agitations and it happens even in our mother's kitchens

Crmde Okwaa Chuks

What I think in that ‪#‎EdesonNews‬ is very stupid...

Endy Edeson

@chuks: come on, read between lines. i mean no harm to you or any other person on this platform. let us unite, work together to live happily

Akintoye Adebareh Abdul Akeem

Leave them. We will all lose during the war.

Ezenwa Okorocha Peculiar

@Edison how i wish am close to you, i will show you many pix and videos of extra judicial killings. Human beings killed like mosquitoes and dia corps looted. Just cos of an arm less agitation dat happend every wia in the world. Remember these Igbo ppl reside all over the world. You cannot record any minor injury any wia in the world but Nigeria.

Ezenwa Okorocha Peculiar

@Chuks i think you over reacted in your comment

Endy Edeson

@pecular: i understand. once again, my point is, if the Nigerian government and the Biafran Agitators should come up with a peaceful referendum ( constitution may be amended in the process), then we should be able to have the percentage of igbos that wants Biafra and the ones that don't want it. If higher percentage of Igbos vote to remain in Nigeria, Biafra should seize to exist. If more Igbos wants biafra, it should be given to them. @akem: what do you mean

Muyiwa Kusimo

@Edeson,is there any machinery or platform available for the Biafra agitators to leverage upon just as the European union occasioned such opportunity for the Britain to leave....Back to your assertion on evolution, will the Nigerian govt allow such leverage for the Biafrans to depart peacefully without any recourse to maximum military force,

historical fact of Gowon and Ojukwu should refresh your memory by now,you also seem to have forgotten so soon that the Niger Delta regions have been clamoring for total independence of their natural resources right from the days of Ken Sarowiwa of blessed memory, up till now nothing meaningful has been done, hence the avenue to liberate and agitation for succession have been a blocking wall of total resistance by the Federal Govt,or in other words will the Nigeria Govt allow a channel of referendum for the people of Biafran and other likes to be utilized,of course not.. because they have billions of naira emanating from those regions,to me your submissions is not in the right perspective.

Ezenwa Okorocha Peculiar

@Edison, get me right i have never agitated and can never move to agitate. This agitators do not have the power to call a referendum. Government must come up with this referendum if it must hold. Remember a little attention from FG may settle dis once and for all. Has FG called these ppl for discussion? Do you knw dia problem might not actually be a sovereign nation. Thus, they did not agitate during past Administration maybe cos of political appointments of dia Wards in Jonathan's government. Must you kill dem? why not ask them first before making them suya materials?

Akintoye Adebareh Abdul Akeem

Leave them. We will all lose during the war.

Bishop George

I THINK I SHOULD JUST GO ON WITH MY POLIVALENT AND ELIPTIC MODULE OF COMUNICATION. NIGERIA DOESN'T LISTEN TO PEACE TALKS, HERE IT IS VIOLENCE THAT SPEAKS. HAD IT BEEN THE NIGER DELTA AGITATIONS WERE DONE PEACEFULLY, BY NOW THERE WOULD BE NO DIALOGUE. BUT SINCE THE MILITANTS STARTED BLOWING UP PIPELINES, U SEE FG IS READY FOR DIALOGUE.
WHEN THE BIAFRA AGITATION BECAME STRONG AGAIN LAST YEAR, WHAT DID BUHARI DO?? DID HE CALL 4 DIALOGUE?? INSTEAD HE ARRESTED NNAMDI KANU AND CHARGED HIM FOR TREASON, TILL DATE NNAMDI KANU IS NOT OUT... THINGS LIKE DIS WILL EVENTUALLY LAND NIGERIA INTO ANODA CIVIL WAR OR COUP.
NOW I SEE D REASON WHY DIS COUNTRY IS CALLED A ZOO... YEYE DEY SMELL

A good writer has a unique style presenting story alongside their opinion without bringing argument....you need some blending. You can't be against and in support at the same time, you are not a bat.

And from all indication some of d britains dat voted for d exit has started regreting it now, because a report from goggle today shows d search for d implication of d exit is wat most people have been searching for.. Wat dis means now is dey have voted blindly, some have started saying if dey will have a second chance dey will vote for stay...

Ezenwa Okorocha Peculiar

The more you kill dem, The more they convert me. The more you push dem to rivers of Babylon, The more dey remember Zion.

@endy... Honestly you used Biafra as a case study the wrong reasons. How can you first say you are not in support and then you are not against, then where the fuck are u?, I guess on the fence to try and please everybody at the same time, bro it's either you are alive or dead, you can't be in between. Agitators don't call for a referendum, they agitate to get the government's attention to call for a dialogue then a referendum if dialogue didn't work out.

Tunde Rasaq

He has right to his opinion don't for yours on him i think he is just been civil

Guys, a Peaceful referendum in the Biafra case is more like a mirage to come to fruition. I say so bcos, Nigeria is still not that developed both in our actions & sense of reasoning. There is still corruption, tribalism, ethnocentrism & the likes of them still running in our national life as a nation, and until these canker worms which has eaten into our thots & the fabrics of our nation is done away with, Biafra will not see d light of day. Britain is a well developed nation & thus they know as a nation what is good for them, they are not selfish, no ill motive, no sentiments and to crown it all up their government sought for their citizen's 'public opinion' on this issue & respected the outcome. That is a responsible & organized form of governance that is yet to happen in any 3rd world country like Nigeria. Until our government take this into cognisance, we will just keep being underdeveloped & finding ourselves in a lag time pointing fingers towards ourselves instead of agitating with evolution

Somebody is talking about resignation in a country where alleged corrupt men are been installed into various political offices without any probe? In a country of desperate power thirsty politicians that are ready to take anything by force?

Somebody is talking about referendum in a country where "crush them! crush them!! Is an anthem?

Somebody is telling "Biafrans" to learn from something as if it was Britain that initiated and organized the referendum?

Bro Endy do you make research at all? or you're very much aware of what you're doing, but just decided to be insincere?
Indeed some people sentiments always look like a golden ephod in their mind, but makes them look like a mighty joker in the outside world. May God save this country.

@Endy Edeson , 80% of people who voted for exit of Britain from EU are illiterate. That's why its good to educated yourcitizen on a particular policy /programme the advantages/disadvantages of the policy/programme before asking for their opinions .So far so good a super interesting lesson to learn for all Nigerians before certain policy can be accepted/rejected we must extensively analysed it before presenting it for debate.

I do not want to believe that your post is geared towards lambasting the Biafran movement...for if that be the case, then ur position is biased and of minimal objectivity.
Now let me try putting you straight. I have cause to believe that you do not listen to the Radio station of the Biafran people; for if you did, your postulation would have been better grounded.
I direct my response to two front. First, your position actually shows that you have a truncated understanding of what position the Biafran people have sought right from the inception of this movement. You speak of Revolution as the position of the movement which I think is based on the clashes with the myo-ridden security operatives; a position i term absurd. The Biafran movement has always subscribed to peace and a protest which is geared towards getting the attention of the Nigerian government. In UK there was a lone voice who spoke and indeed support came and the government called for a dialogue...no clashes were seen with the police..no life lost. Even when there were gatherings there was no police opening fire on civilians.
Secondly on the issue of a referendum. Obviously Buhari even thinks myopically as most. Nigerians do. When one makes a request for his right, he does not in any way beat the drum for a fight. So i think he should stop making references to the Nigerian-Biafran war as bases for not addressing the Biafran issue. Has he called to ask If the Biafran people needed a referendum.? He thinks he is been invited to war. Myopic! The Biafran people wish to have a referendum that has been the aim of the movement. Again I state: The Biafran movement is a peaceful movement geared towards getting the attention of the government (and which have gotten the government) first to the dialogue table and (maybe) subsequently lead to a referendum.
Note. Am not angry. Just putting you straight.
