This vital information is for Muslims, Christians, Atheists etc.
You should all know that Ramadan is not only a Muslim affair. May the
peace of almighty Allah be unto you all. The holy month of Ramadan began
on
Monday June 6, which means fasting during daylight and breaking the fast in the evening with Iftar. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is a time of fasting for the Islamic people. Each day during this month, Muslims all over the world abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, as well as participating in anything that is ill-natured or excessive; from dawn until the sun sets.
During Ramadan, here are some tips we should keep in mind:
1. Iftar is a special meal: It's the meal Muslims have after ending the fast for that particular day. So, if you are a non-Muslim who is invited by a Muslim friend for Iftar, you should not refuse, and you should certainly not say you won't eat because you are not fasting.
2. We know you have the freedom to eat when and where you like but for the sake of being a good neighbor, try to avoid eating in front of a fasting Muslim
3. Don't tell your Muslim friends you want to fast to lose weight. Ramadan is not about fasting to lose weight. It's about teaching yourself discipline. It's about abstinence, about keeping yourself pure. It's something you should follow everyday of the year. In fact, most people who fast during Ramadan end up gaining weight. This is because of irregular eating patterns and heavy meals at Iftar. There's nothing wrong in fasting as a non-Muslim.
4. When your Muslim friend or colleagues stays a foot away when you’re talking or avoid close contact they don’t want to bother you with their breathe so understand because you know the breathe of someone who hasn’t eaten can’t be really fresh. Halitosis is the name.
5. You can drink Water while fasting during Ramadan. People who fast are encouraged to rehydrate throughout the night instead of filling up on food, in order to maintain energy levels.
