TODAY in HISTORY/BIOGRAPHY: Margaret Thatcher became First Woman Elected Prime Minister of England

First and foremost, for education purpose, who is a Prime Minister? A prime minister is the most senior minister of cabinet in the executive branch of government, often in a parliamentary or semi-presidential system. In United Kingdom, the Queen of England is responsible for appointing the Prime Minister after a general election or a resignation, in a General Election. The Prime Minister is equivalent to a President in Presidential System of government like Nigeria.
Margaret Hilda Thatcher simply known as Margret Thatcher is the first Woman Prime Minister of United Kingdom. She was elected on May 3, 1979 and ruled till 1990 and was the longest-serving British Prime Minister of the 20th century. She was nicked by a Soviet Journalist as “Iron Lady” due to her authoritarian style of leadership. She was Nicknamed Iron by a Russian/Soviet Journalist after she presented a speech “Britain Awake’ which was strict to Russia. In her speech, she told British people to be on alert and stop Russia from their (Russia) plans of dominating the world or becoming World Power.
She resigned as Prime Minister and party leader in November 1990, after a challenge to her leadership was launched. In 2013 she died of stroke in London at the age of 87.
