POLITICS: A Bill to Strenghten Sharia Law Passes Second Reading Without Debate

A bill to increase the powers and jurisdiction of "Sharia Law" in Nigeria has passed second reading by the Nigeria's House of Assembly. It was learnt that House Speaker, Yakubu Dogara advised lawmaker, Abdullahi Salame (the lawmaker representing Gwadabawa/Illela federal constituency of Sokoto state) to sponsor the bill.The bill scaled through without a debate. Abdullahi Salame, said Mr. Dogara recognised that the bill could draw public outrage, and urged him not to “make noise” about the bill. Mr. Salame was widely criticised on social media on Wednesday, after it became clear that his bill

, which seeks to amend the Constitution to give more powers to the Sharia Court of Appeal, had quietly passed the second reading last week Thursday.

Mr. Salame said the Speaker directed him to quietly work the bill through second reading for it to be sent to the Constitution Amendment Committee for consideration.

@benard: i just hope and pray the sharia law strenghtens only in the North. other parts of Nigeria can't be subjected or mandated on such jurisdiction

Sharia law where it exist only affect the masses, I could remember a news about a sharia mongering northern governor who amputated a poor man for stealing a cow, but when his own diversion of billions was exposed, sharia didn't have any effect on him, so does Muhammad during his days, Islam makes it lawful for Muslims who can afford it to marry 4 wives, but Muhammad married more than 10 wives and said the god who made it lawful for his followers to marry 4 also commanded him to marry many, simply because they lost their husbands to jihad war, sickness, etc. This taqiya based ideology is something else.
