CRIME NEWS: Ex Governor Lucky Igbinedion’s Brother Asked To Pay N3M For Stealing Over N25BN Or Go To Jail For 6 Years

A Federal High Court in Benin, Edo State on Thursday sentenced a younger brother of ex-Governor Lucky Igbinedion, Michael, to a six-year jail term for N25bn money laundering offences. An aide of the ex-governor, Patrick Eboigbodin, was also jailed for 20 years for the same of offences. However, the governor’s brother has an option of paying N3m or N1m for each of the three counts on which he was found guilty to avoid going to jail.
Eboigbodin sentencing on Thursday is without an option of fine.
The two convicts and four companies had been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on an 81-count charge of money laundering during the tenure of Lucky Igbinedion as governor.
The four companies are Gava Corporation Limited, Romrig Nigeria Limited, PML Securities Company Limited and PML Nigeria Limited.

@jehoha: and more people will embezzle knowing the fact that they have no room or space to stay in prison. it's bad for nigeria

Enyinda Nathaniel Okey

this is why embezzlement don become full time business. the more u embezzle.. the more lawyers and judges go settle.. den dem go find technical grounds to set the person free.. any mumu wey go thief N10k... dem go give am room and parlour for prison

Shola Afolabi

Stealing is not corruption..

Itodo Michael

Hw much did he steal that they want to imprison him? Is it not just 25b? The judge is heartless, why should they ask him to pay that much just for stealin(not even corruption o) 25bn. Afterall its not his fault. You don't put a yam and a goat togeda and you don't expect d goat to eat d yam. Its a normal thing to steal dear, even if buhari comes he promise to fight corruption nt thiefs.

Valentine Iorlaha Adura

Its far better to steal dis money n get a bail or even go to jail.

Phemmy Kunle Odunlami Olooto

Not surprising na. Country of impunity. Precedence has been set long ago for such to continue to happen.
