Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s former president, has publicly expressed support for the electioneering campaign of Muhammadu Buhari, a former military ruler and presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking at the launch of My Watch in Nairobi, Kenya on Tuesday, Obasanjo, who served his two terms as president under the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), condemned the postponement of the election. “The circumstances [Buhari] will be working under if he wins the election are different from the one he worked under before, where he was both the executive and the legislature — he knows that,” he said.
“He’s smart enough. He’s educated enough. He’s experienced enough. Why shouldn't I support him?”
It is the first time that the ex-president has publicly spoken of his support for Buhari. He recently said that he would only speak out on his leaning after the election has been conducted.

@ Emeka. Who does OBJ's endorsement concern you?. Which human on earth controls what other independent people do?. Is he the boss of OBJ?. Concerning jailing of past criminals. This is what I'll say, and I've said it before in the past. I don't mind if he doesn't jail any. Why?. The judiciary isn't set up to do it now and that IMO would be a witch hunt that would yield little. Those big elites have people they can buy. Take the case of Ibori, he would normally be jailed but he had almost the same machinery in the same judiciary ergo why it would be difficult to jail him here. Its the same for these men. They are very strong now but if you set up the judiciary long term you can bring them in. Also, I always cite a case of what Putin did in Russia, he didn't go after the oligarchs that were destroying Russia but he warned them to leave politics and those who failed to heed that warning were jailed for their past. Cleansing this systemic corruption won't be easy and I don't even think Nigerians have the patience for it as most want to first benefit from it before they even think of that. @ Endy. And I'd urge you to do a proper finding on the PTF so called scam. Money didn't go missing as being alluded. OBJ even employed 2 from that PTF team and the female there was directly responsible for our debt being cleared then, she's even now working for the UN. OBJ tried twice with different panels to find something but both came with the same conclusion. They couldn't find something underhand. Its just as IBB did when he probed the counter trading under GMB. @ Yvonne. If indeed GMB made that statement then it is a true statement. I'll tell you why. Coups thrive on uncertainty and chaos. Should there be no election look for that to happen if its not already in works. Earlier last year, the Army made a statement that coups would be a thing of the past if what they're working on succeeds (not in exact words). That statement to me reads, they are still attempts at coups but they're doing their best not to let it happen. Coup indeed would work very well now should the Army try it cos the uncertainty is getting high and all former Army men would know this (GMB being one). @ Yvonne. Its worrisome should indeed coups are being planned and I do think they might be. There are lots of ambitious men in the military. Heck, they even teach coups as a course. They learn how to properly plan and execute coups in all militaries and how to foil them.
