of Ogoni people took to the streets in Port Harcourt on Thursday to
protest the endorsement of a member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dakuku Peterside, as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress. Peterside was on Wednesday chosen as the APC governorship candidate in
Rivers State ahead of the member representing Rivers South-East in the
National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, a native of Ogoniland.
SIXTY-three
senators as of Thursday have signed up to the plan to impeach President
Goodluck Jonathan in the upper legislative chamber, The PUNCH learnt in
Abuja. One of the arrowheads of the move to remove Jonathan in the
Senate showed our correspondent the list containing the signatures of
the senators.
The source said eight Peoples Democratic Party senators were among the signatories to the planned impeachment notice.

Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has been
elected the first female president of the Organisation of Petroleum
Exporting Countries (OPEC). Alison-Madueke was shortly elected
President of OPEC at the ongoing 166th General Meeting of the body in
Vienna, Austria. She replaces former President of OPEC, Libyan Vice
Prime Minister for Corporations, Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish. She was before her election the alternate president of OPEC and is
expected to immediately begin to serve her one-year term at the helm of
OPEC affairs.

reports. Prosecutors say he made $10,000 to $20,000 a week smuggling
drugs and cell phones into the prison and befriended the female guards
who helped to make his business easy.
