As a result of the President's visit to Borno State, the Borno State Government on Wednesday declared Friday public holiday, a work free day for both workers in the private and public sector. This was
done in order to welcome President Goodluck Jonathan, who is expected to be in Maiduguri today to begin an official visit to the state on Friday.
More so, President Jonathan is expected to arrive the Maiduguri International Airport, Thursday, then proceed to Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, for a State visit before returning back to Borno to begin his official visit to the State on Friday.
The President, on Friday will pay a courtesy visit to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai El-Kanemi; he will also inspect and inaugurate some projects executed by Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State.
In preparation for the President's visit, renovation works are going on at the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda, is said to be heading the organising committee in charge of the visit in order to ensure a hitch-free visit.
Furthermore, we gathered that Jonathan is expected to hold a Town Hall meeting with members of Borno Elders Forum, religious and community leaders as well as other stakeholders, he will however cease the opportunity to speak on the issue of amnesty to Boko Haram members, which the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Saa'd and other Northern Elders suggested as a solution to stop the attacks from the sect. He will also address the issue of Boko Haram the ceasefire recently declared by a faction of Boko Haram during the visit.
It can be recalled that Vice President,Namadi Sambo also paid courtesy visit to the State.
