1. The strike embarked upon by the
Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Rivers State University of Science
and Technology chapter, has paralysed academic activities at the institution. The
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that lecturers in the university
embarked on the strike to protest alleged refusal of the State Government
to rescind its decision on the re-appointment of Prof. Barineme Fakae as Vice
Chancellor of the university.
2. The Federal Government of Nigeria plans to construct one million houses annually to
meet the 17 million houses required in the country to house citizens. The
Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Ms Amal Pepple, gave the
assurance on Monday in Bauchi while inaugurating 288 housing units tagged
“Bauchi Unity Estate” constructed by Terraquest Development Company.
3. The National Universities Commission (NUC) on Monday said
that 449 candidates met the criteria for selection for the Presidential Special
Scholarship Scheme for innovation and development. The Executive Secretary of
NUC, Prof. Julius Okojie, made the statement in Abuja when he visited Chams
centre where the candidates wrote the Presidential Special Scholarship Aptitude
Test.
