Edo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu, has threatened to sue Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the July 14 governorship election, Maj.-Gen. Charles Airhiavbere (retd.), over allegations linking him to a man who slumped at the election petition tribunal last Thursday.
The Charles Airhiavbere Campaign Organisation had, in a statement issued in Benin, alleged that the man that collapsed, Israel Eyinmosan, was brought to the court by Odubu on a “dubious mission.”
Odubu, at a press briefing on Saturday, however, said he was giving Airhiavbere and three broadcast stations that aired the CACO statement 48 hours to retract the story.
He said, “They have to tender an unreserved apology or I will take them to court for libel. This attempt to assassinate my character will not go un-redressed.
“As a responsible citizen of Edo and deputy governor of the state, my concern was to assist a man in distress by calling authorities of the Central Hospital to evacuate him for treatment.”
Speaking from his hospital bed, Eyinmosan told our correspondent that he was at the tribunal in solidarity with Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
He said, “I was at the tribunal to observe proceedings as a supporter of Governor Oshiomhole.
“I have been suffering from epilepsy since 1984 when I was in secondary school. I have no relationship with the deputy governor.
“There is nothing people cannot say about you when something like this happens. Many people have called me to say they heard that I am dead.”
