Goodluck Jonathan Expected Back To Nigeria Today:
President Goodluck Jonathan departed Abuja yesterday for Addis Ababa in Ethiopia to attend the burial of the country’s late Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi. A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, said Jonathan would be back in the country on Sunday. Zenawi who passed away at a hospital in Brussels, Belgium on Aug. 20 will be buried today in Addis Ababa.

Manchester City coach confirmed to reporters today that the 22yr old Italian striker is no longer able to wear contact lenses and requires immediate surgery to correct his Myopia. Myopia is commonly known as shortsightedness. Mario is not ready to return to the pitch yet. He no longer seems to tolerate contact lenses. He's feeling alright now, but the problem can return anytime'- the coach told reporters. The surgery is set for Sept 4th.

Actor Rich Oganiru Killed Wife?
Police
authorities in Abuja Friday confirmed to NEWSMEN that notable Nollywood actor,
Mr. Rich Oganiru was arrested and is being investigated in connection with the
alleged killing of his wife (names with-held). According to the source, Oganiru
was arrested following a petition by family and relations of the wife who
claimed that she was poisoned by the actor who had allegedly perfected the act
to do away with her in order to acquire her wealth said to be stupendous. The
wife was said to have been hospitalised for three months for an undisclosed
ailment in an Abuja hospital with the Nollywood actor abandoning her
until the last day she was to be discharged, before Oganiru came to the
hospital to take her home.

State Constructs New Roads:
Kwara
State government has committed N2.2billion on construction and
rehabilitation of rural roads across the three senatorial zones of the state.
Also the government has outlawed cutting of roads without permission and
outline stiffer sanctions for prospective offenders. The state Commissioner for
Works and Transport, Dr. Amuda Kannike, said this while inspecting the
roads with his team. He had earlier inaugurated a committee to go going round
the state to ensure that roads are not cut.
900 Escapes Death In Lagos: As Others Die In Kano
Over nine hundred passengers escaped death on Friday morning when a 10-coach Iddo bound train rammed into a trailer truck at Ilupeju Railway crossing near Oshodi, Lagos. Also two Toyota Hiace buses travelling in opposite directions along Potiskum-Kano road in the state, had a head-on collision and thereafter went off in flames. 29 persons died,11 of them burnt beyond recognition. The accident which occurred at about 7:30 a.m. led to traffic gridlock along the Ilupeju/Oshodi road for several hours.
Bulgarian Nationals Arrested In Uganda:
Police has arrested four
Bulgarian thieves for stealing money from Automated machines (ATMs). The
arrested are identified as Ivan Ganchev Emilov 37, Anton Ivanov 25, Milen Katsarski
25 and Adrian Dimitov 25. They were arrested when they went to Stanbic Bank
Nateete branch as they tried to steal money from the machine at 9:30pm
yesterday, Thursday.
