American Rapper DMX Breaks Down In Tears About His Mother

DMX is simply unpredictable. No one knew exactly what to expect when the Dog sat on the "RapFix Live" red couch on Wednesday (September 12), but the gravelly voiced rap legend proceeded to take viewers through a series of emotional ups and downs — and even shed a few tears.
Though he was mostly upbeat, things got emotional for X when "RapFix" host Sway Calloway asked him about his mother.
"Me and mother always had a rocky relationship," DMX said, recalling his breakdown during an April episode of VH1's reality series "Couples Therapy" where he first cried reminiscing on his mom.

"I think when we did the show, I hadn't spoken to my mother for eight or nine years, but I was stuck on — I was looking or expecting an apology for what you did or some type of confirmation or recognition of what you did," he said recalling his mindset during that VH1 taping.
While on "RapFix," X explained the importance of his relationship with his mom. "For one, my mother's still alive. She's alive, and if she would've passed and not have me on good terms with her, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself," he said sobbing. "Forgot the apology, forget the apology of what I did wrong. As a grown man, with children of my own, as a grown man, I just wanted to be able say the word: 'mommy.' "
The rapper, who released his seventh LP Undisputed on Tuesday, has since patched up his relationship with his mother.
"Any man, it doesn't matter how hard, how tough you are, you need to be someone's baby," he said. "That's necessary, and anyone who thinks other than that, they're fooling themselves. I just wanted to use that word genuinely. I just wanted to be able to say, 'Mommy, I love you.' "
