A Mararaba Area Court in Karu, Nasarawa State, on Monday remanded a 31-year-old butcher, Onyeka Ude , in prison custody for allegedly stealing a generator.
Police prosecutor Inuwa Maigida told the court that one Franklin Okafor, who resides near Tima Garden Hotel, Aku Village, Mararaba, reported the matter at the ‘A’ Division Police Station in Mararaba, on Sept. 9.
Maigida said the accused, who lives at Calvary Road Junction, Mararaba, forcefully entered the complainant’s compound and stole the generator valued at N14,000 and N150,000 cash.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of the Penal Code, but the accused, who pleaded guilty to stealing the generator, denied stealing any money.
He urged the court to forgive him because “it was the devil’s hand work”.
The judge, Mr Albert Maga, refused to grant the accused bail and ordered that he be remanded in prison custody.
