Late Steve Jobs House Burglarized

The late Steve Jobs' home was recently burglarized and tens of thousands of dollars worth of property was purportedly stolen. Several news outlets are reporting a suspect is currently in custody.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office said Jobs' home in Palo Alto, Calif. was broken into on July 17.
A suspect was later arrested. Deputy District Attorney Tom Flattery told the media few details since charges have been filed. He did say it appears the suspect did not initially realize the home belonged to the late Apple co-founder. "The best we can tell is it was totally random," said Flattery. Authorities do believe the suspect eventually figured out the significance of the home.
They think that the home was targeted because it appears to be undergoing renovations and appeared less secured. Business Week reported that "several computers and personal items" carrying a value of
over $60,000 was taken from the California home. The San Jose Mercury News published an updated detailed report of what was stolen, which included Jobs' wallet, driver's license, credit cards and several Apple products. Reportedly, the alleged thief was caught after he used one of the Apple products to access his personal iTunes account and authorities traced the IP address.
The suspect, 35-year-old Kariem McFarlin, of Alameda, was arrested on Aug. 2 and charged with burglary and selling stolen property. He currently is in jail on $500,000 bail, and is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 20 to enter a plea. "I've never gotten this many calls from people," supervising Santa Clara County deputy district attorney Scott Tsui said of the July 17 theft in Palo Alto. "Other than the fact it involves Mr. Jobs, it's a pretty standard burglary case." Reportedly, the Palo Alto area has seen a sharp increase of burglaries, 63 percent, in recent months.
