3. ESUT Vice Chancellor KIDNAP UPDATE: CULT
related killings resumed in Enugu yesterday with the shooting to death of four
persons including a councilor. This is coming on the heels of unconfirmed
reports that the abductors of the Vice Chancellor of Enugu State University of
Science and Technology, ESUT, Professor Cyprian Onyeji, have demanded a ransom
of about N200 million as a condition for his release.
5. Free LAGBUS Ride On EL-EL-FITRI
DAY in LAGOS: LAGBUS will provide free bus ride to Lagosians on Eid el fitri
day. In a statement signed by the public relations officer of the organization,
Mr. Durojaiye Olanrewaju, the free bus ride will start from 6:00am to 10:00pm
across its 46 routes in the state. According to the Managing Director of LAGBUS
Mr. Babatunde Disu, this is LAGBUS contribution towards a successful Eid el
fitri celebration. He enjoined Lagosians to embrace the use of public
transportation during this festive period and beyond. He thanked Lagosians for
travelling with LAGBUS over the years and wished Muslims a happy Eid el fitri
celebration.

CENTER in NIGERIA: Federal Government of Nigeria is planning to establish
Skills Acquisition Centres in all the 36 States to empower the youths, job
seekers and graduates.
7. CONGO MUSICIAN JAILED:
Congo musician Koffi Olomide, one of Africa's most popular singers, has been
given a three-month suspended prison sentence for assaulting his producer. The
rumba star, 56, was arrested after a fracas on Wednesday at a hotel in
Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Correspondents say
the courtroom was packed to see the star, who leads the Quartier Latin band.
Olomide this year denied charges of raping three of his dancers in France.
8. UGANDA In Homosexual HACKING:
The Ugandan prime minister's website was attacked by hackers on Tuesday and
Wednesday, a government official has confirmed to the BBC. Screen grabs showing
the website with messages from gay activists are being circulated on social
media sites. In one, the prime minister apologizes to all homosexuals living in
Uganda and gives his support to a gay pride march. Homosexual acts are illegal
in Uganda and gay people have faced physical attacks and social rejection.
9. RIOT in South AFRICA: South African
riot police opened fire on striking miners armed with machetes and sticks at
Lonmin's Marikana platinum mine, killing at least a dozen in the deadliest
episode of a week of union violence.
10. WIKILEAKS Co-founder, JULIAN ASSANGE
In BIG Trouble: WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will appeal to the
International Court of Justice if Britain blocks his exit to Ecuador, renowned
Spanish rights lawyer Baltasar Garzon said on Thursday. Garzon, who is helping
Assange’s defence, told Spanish daily El Pais that Britain had a legal
obligation to allow his client to leave the country once Ecuador granted him
diplomatic asylum. The UK
says Wikileaks founder Julian Assange will not be given safe passage out of the
country from his London refuge, after Ecuador grants him political asylum.
