First Interview With Shem Obafaiye, "My Oga At The Top" After The Channels TV Saga -

“ They Wanted to Ruin My Career But Thank God “My OGA at the TOP” Saga Became a Blessing to Me”

The first interview of any kind with Commandant Shem Obafaiye "My Oga At The Top" since the famous interview done by Channels TV. The man is surely not what the live interview portrayed him to be! He is surely far more intelligent than that. Enjoy.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: My Oga At The Top fame, an act of God -Obafaiye

What is your assessment of the security situation in Ibadan and Oyo State in general?

The security situation in Oyo State is relatively peaceful and I must tell you that the synergy among the security agencies here is very superb. We relate well; the Commissioner of Police carries me on well and indeed refers to me as his brother. I do the same to him. Anything that affects one affects all.

At a time, there was a clash between my men and the police. Immediately I told him about it, he promptly took it up and resolved it. My bosses were amazed. That’s the level of rapport that exists between us.

How would you compare the work situation in Lagos to the one in Oyo State?

Lagos is very riotous. What I am trying to say is that there is so much stress in Lagos State when compared with a state like Oyo. Oyo State is a more peaceful state. Ibadan is particularly peaceful. Life here cannot, in any way, be compared with life in Lagos. But just as God backed us up in Lagos, He is still doing the same here in Ibadan. The way He made me succeed in Lagos, is the same way He has started making a success of my work here in Oyo State.

My achievements have been positive. It has always been my desire to do my best as much as possible on this job and wherever I find myself, and God has been good to me. This is what I always tell my subordinates. Since all of us cannot be president; we cannot all be Commandant General, we can all contribute our quota to the growth and development of Nigeria in whichever corner we find ourselves.

This is what I always tell my subordinates. I always tell them that if they are cleaners, they should clean well. The Bible instructs us to do our job as unto the Lord. We should do all with the fear of God. That is, if no one is watching you, God is. My wish is to do my best, to leave a good legacy behind for my generation and everyone coming after me.

Would you rather work here or in Lagos?

Our job is with the federal government. So, it is not about where anyone prefers, it is about where we are posted to. And the rule is that we must be ready to work anywhere; we must adapt to whichever environment we find ourselves. It is a service and we must do it well at all times. There is nowhere I cannot work.

You were posted to Ibadan shortly after the “My Oga At the Top” interview. How about your family? Did you move them down to Ibadan or they are still in Lagos?

They are here. They joined me barely a week after I resumed here. It makes the job easier because there won’t be any divided loyalty.

What are the challenges of your job?

Life is a risk and so is every job. Our own job is no exception. Even the Army, advanced as they are, they still have challenges. In our own case, we are making do with what the federal government has been giving us. We have men on ground and with good leadership, we are showing commitment and doing well. God has been very faithful. In the course of our job, we arrest tankers with arms and ammunition among other major things. We have challenges, but they are minimal.

How would you rate the success of the NSCDC so far?

Am I not too small to rate the NSCDC? Generally, I would say, of all the agencies, ours is the closest to the masses. We live with them, interact with them and we have a good intelligence gathering network. We are doing well in all ramifications. On some different occasions, we are the first to get to scenes of fire incidences. In the area of disaster management, we help manage situations, rescue and rehabilitate. In the area of preventing the activities of pipeline vandals, we are also doing well. If I am to give a mark, I would give 75%. That is an A.

As security officer, what tips would you give to individuals for safety?

We must observe personal security in our homes. It would be wrong to switch on your light before leaving home; people should be conscious of strangers around where they live; they need to call the attention of neighbours if they see strange faces; they should put bulbs in their surroundings to illuminate the environment. I would also advise that you don’t just leave your gate open. Your security man should be registered with a security outfit so that they will be able to capture his data.

This is to enable them to trace him. It is risky and not ideal to just employ somebody just because he claimed to have worked as security officer in some place before. He might have been sacked for one misdemeanor or the other before or may even be telling lie just to feed himself. He may not be able to handle the job and you may end up suffering for this at the end of the day. And for those who employ house helps, they must be careful of who they leave their children with. A lot of underground work need to be done to have these kids placed in safe hands.

What is your opinion about the Channels Television interview that brought you instant fame?

I have nothing much to say other than to bless God for everything. I thank God for all that happened; I thank God for my boss, his support and love. He is a good boss and I appreciate him. As far as I am concerned all things work well for those who love God and in all things, the Bible says we should praise God.

The people that thought they were going to ruin me did not know that they would end up in announcing my destiny. In the history of humanity, there had never been any human being that had instant fame like I did especially in a case that was meant to end negatively. My brother-in-law in London is even so excited about the incident that he promised to assist me make big money out of this supposed mess. He had already handed the matter to an agency over there to trade mark “Oga at the Top.” But I just asked him to forget it. There is no need for that.

Many of my class mates are in top positions in Nigeria currently, yet, they said I did not go to school. I can mention a lot of them here, including the Attorney General in Lagos State, Ipaye.

But why should I do all that. All the same, I give all the praises to God. It was not the first interview I would be having with them (Channels Tv). After that interview we shook hands and I even gave them my complimentary card. I could see that they were not really cheerful. If there was any effect, it was on them and not me. It was the same day I met with Governor Fashola of Lagos State.

Theirs took place in the morning and I met Governor Fashola later in the day. Some people believed they were up to something, but I did not know. I was only being careful with words as a security officer. We apply caution in all that we say and do. It was a live programme, the whole world was watching us, so, I did not want to be too free.

But like I said, I thank God for everything. I blame nobody for anything; I see everything as an act of God. They believe they would use it to destroy my destiny but God turned everything around for me, for the better.

How did your family take the development?

The day of the interview, 16th of March, 2013, was the day my father was buried. It was as if it was designed to destablise me on the day of the burial of my father, but it was not so. It was three or four days after that they apologised and said it was not meant to embarrass me.

Channels felt bad because it backfired. Anybody that wants to go for an interview in Channels will be very skeptical now and henceforth. I just felt it was my time for divine announcement, so I did not take it the way they thought I would take it.

In fact, when I saw the T-shirt, I wanted to buy one. Some had thought that my transfer to Ibadan was a demotion, but they are wrong. It is not. They also claimed that my wife went to Channels over the issue. The question I asked was, to do what? She did not. The whole thing has only turned around to be God’s glory in my life.

What is your philosophy of life and how did it apply in the case of “My Oga At The Top” case?

My philosophy of life is to impact positively on this generation. I want to leave a legacy, a good and worthwhile legacy behind that will not make my family live or walk in fear when I am gone. I want to sustain my good name; and that is what I preach to my staff every day.

I tell them to be open-minded; be determined; do what you will do with your best ability whether people are there or not. Note that there are people watching you and your work will speak for you when you are not there. This is what I always tell them.

What is the lesson to be learnt in your “Oga At The Top” issue?

Everyone should identify a lesson out of the whole saga.

What is your childhood ambition and where were you born?

My dream was to become a military person. In the village, they called me a Soldier because of the way I walk. Talking about where I was born, I was born in Ayetoro Kiri in Kabba/Bunu local government area of Kogi State.

What influence do your parents have on your life as an adult?

My parents are very hard working and well-disciplined. My father was a farmer and made us to work on the farm as early as 4 a.m. and wouldn’t come back until 10 p.m. They were very strict. My father was not that rich, but he was determined and loved his children to go to school. The two of them are dead now but they left a good memory of themselves behind. And you know like it used to generally be in those years, we lived a communal life.

My father lived a very selfless life. He wished all other children that were not even his own the best that he wished for we his children. He wouldn’t let any child that he found at home when others were in school be. That earned him the name- “Baba ki lo n se n le.” He would ensure that the reason why the child was not in school got fixed as much as possible.

This and others we learnt as we grew up. He taught us the essence of hardwork. He was not rich, so, we had to work on the farm very hard to get money to take care of our school fees. My mother was also hard-working.

She was a strong-willed woman who was a popular garri maker of her time. She died in 2009 while papa died in February 2013. They taught us to be solution givers and we thank God that we are on that path. He believed in the power of cane. I remember a time that I and one of my brothers went to work in the farm and we covered so much ground and without food. When he came, we thought he was going to be excited and commend us. He, instead, went wild when he found out we did all that we did on empty stomach. He caned us in anger.

Would you recall any of your childhood pranks?

I was a serious student in UNILAG and so wouldn’t joke with my books. I came from a poor family and I didn’t want to disappoint my parents and myself. I think I entered the female hostel twice throughout my undergraduate days. My success was more important and I wouldn’t want anything to distract me.

How would you describe village life?

It was a communal life. People do things together, but in the city, they want to do it by themselves. There were good and healthy foods in the village. Everything was expressly from nature, the air, water, vegetables and all. Even herbs came handy for ailments that would have cost a fortune in the city. City life has caused crises to marriages whereas this is not common in the village. There is a huge difference between life in the village and in the city.

What attracted you to your wife?

She is beautiful and a good singer. She was leading a chorus at a crusade when I first saw her. She is an evangelist.

How would you describe marriage?

Marriage is a beautiful thing. That is the way I would describe it.

How do you unwind?

I am married to my job and my wife complains about that. When I am not working, I am in church. The last time I went on leave was in 2009.

What is your general advice for people?

Let every individual do his work as ordained by God, believing that he or she is accountable at the end of the race. People should be contended with what they have; they should use all their strength to do whatever is given to them and wait on God for reward. People should put their trust in God and not in human beings. Today, we have so many people derailing because they expect so many things from human beings. Wait for God at the appointed time. Do what you are doing with the fear of God.

…A Woman Turns to a MAN…

…Meet The Former Nigerian Female Footballer Who Now Lives As A Man…

…His Name was Iyabo Abade But Now James Johnson…

Iyabo Abade is a Former Super Falcons striker who is now living as a man called James Johnson. His Sex-change surgery was done in 2004. Here is his recent interview with Punch. And he even says women now chase him around like Usain Bolt. Have fun reading!

Now that you are a man, has it been easy playing men’s football?

I thank God for how far He has brought me. I have made every effort to get to the top as a footballer but there is no support from anywhere, even the Nigeria Football Federation. I am just trying on my own to get to the top but it hasn't been easy. You go for trials and you do well and you are recruited but after sometime, they will start acting funny; they use my past against me. I try to ensure that I don’t let clubs know who I am. I don’t like telling them that I am the former Iyabo Abade; I have to go there like every other normal player and fight for a place in the team. But when they hear that former Iyabo Abade has signed for either Crown FC or Plateau United, they start discriminating against me.

Meanwhile I got there as James Johnson but they keep asking, “Can she cope in the midst of guys?” They have forgotten that I am a man and I met their requirements before they signed me up. Once they now know my past, they won’t allow me to play anymore. Were they blind when they signed me? With that, I feel frustrated and discriminated against so I decided that there was no need disturbing myself and I decided to quit. I am praying that God helps me so that I can continue my career abroad. I think things will be better over there.

Has the society accepted you for who you are?

Some do but some have not. Everybody cannot like you for who you are, so you just have to take life the way it is. My colleagues who we played together in the women’s league all welcome me. Some people want to be my friends even when they don’t know who I am and even when they know that I am the former Iyabo Abade turned James Johnson, they are still happy to be my friends. I am happy with that. There is no need for me to be feeling sad that God created me the way I am. So, I am happy with life but I feel sad because some people are out there to cut short your happiness. I will be happy playing football but some people don’t like it.

What is your relationship with your Falcons teammates?

Some of them still welcome me; they see me just like every other person. They don’t discriminate against me; we grew up together and did things together even though I am no more in their group. I am so happy about that. When the news first came out, a lot of them were shocked because they didn’t even know anything about hermaphrodite. But later, they sympathised with me; they said I am not God and didn’t create myself. That was how it went and we are still friends till now.

Your rehabilitation should be in stages. How far have you gone?

I am still on it. After I went for check-up in 2009, I am due for the next stage, where a surgery will be carried out to enable me become a full man and live a normal and perfect life. But every effort has been futile; nothing is really happening and I am looking up to God to intervene in this issue. I have made every effort and gone to the NSC but they did nothing. I took a letter there and was going there for about seven months. So I have to look elsewhere to enable me complete the surgery. I also wrote to NFF when Sani Lulu was the head and he gave me hope. He said, ‘Bring your letter and we will see what we can do.’ But at the end, they said, ‘We don’t know what happened to your letter.’ When it gets to releasing money, that is when the letter gets missing. Only Family Worship helped me a great deal to go for the check-up.

How much do you need for the surgery?

I will need about N12m for the final surgery. My doctor says I have to stay in the US for one year, so that he can monitor the final process. Aside the surgery, I will have to pay for accommodation for one year and other things like feeding and transportation.

Now that you haven’t finished the rehabilitation, would you say you are living a man’s life?

I would say I am living happily but my joy will be to complete the whole stages of the rehabilitation. Then I can boast of myself as a real man just like other guys. I will say I still need the final surgery before I can answer your question further.

You once had the ambition of becoming the first person ever to play for the female and male national teams of a country but the dream seems dashed. How do you feel?

I feel rejected and frustrated because football is my life but the NSC and the NFF are not in support of my ambition. If we had a good sports commission, I won’t be in this situation. Do they want me to cry to the US government? That will be a disgrace to Nigeria.

Who are those that stood behind you during your trying times?

I want to thank former FCT ministers Abba Gana and Nasir el-Rufai; they were very helpful. I wrote to the former First Lady, Turai Yar’Adua, and Patience Jonathan, who was then Second Lady. Though I didn’t get money from the First Lady but I was given the opportunity to enter Aso Rock. Unfortunately, her husband fell sick and she couldn’t attend to me. She asked some people to attend to me but I didn’t hear from them. The present First Lady has not done anything to help me despite all the efforts I have made to reach her, a fellow Niger Deltan like her. If northerners can show concern for me, why not her? Family Worship also gave me money for my check-up as well as the Redeemed Christian Church of God. I appreciate all of them.

Would you accept if the US says you should naturalise and play for them?

I will accept it with both hands. It’s everybody’s dream to be a US citizen, so I will jump at the opportunity.

What is your advice to other hermaphrodites, who are ashamed to come out or don’t have the opportunity you have?

I have some already and I have given my doctor in the US their contacts. They are two and they are into female football. They say a problem shared is half solved. If people don’t know your problem, you will die with it, so they just have to come out and let the world know what they are passing through. They need to look unto God. If not for God, I would have been a forgotten issue because at times, I feel like committing suicide. You will want to run into a moving truck but I thank God for being in charge of my life. I am happy today and everybody wants to mingle with me. So, life goes on.

Are you thinking of setting up a foundation for hermaphrodites?

Yes, so that many people with such issues can be treated. I hope to make it a worldwide foundation. There are a lot of hermaphrodites but they are shy or afraid to come out. There was a case that happened in Delta State when they almost killed a hermaphrodite. They said she is a witch. But it is not proper because these people didn’t create themselves. They should use me as a sign of hope. They can also be treated and be happy just like myself. I won’t blame them for not coming out because the support is not there in Nigeria. If they come out, they will be discriminated against.

When ladies you approach realise later that you were once like them, do they run away?

I am loved by women, there’s no doubt about that. They want to be my best friend. Everywhere I go, women always appreciate me because of my looks even when they later get to know about my issue. They always want to grab the opportunity to date someone like me. Some of them are happy to be with me because they have never seen such a person before. Every woman is mixing with James Johnson.

How was your trip to the US in 2012 with the Marasata Soccer Academy?

Marasata Soccer Academy brought me back to life because I felt so frustrated when I was neglected. The academy brought me in to lead the female team because I once played female football. That was how I became head of the coaching crew and with time, I will get to the top. The trip to the US last year was a success.

Aside not having a club side, do you still play football?

Of course yes. Football is part of me and I play every now and then, even with my boys in the academy. I derive joy in football; I play with Karo All Stars in Abuja and we play so many competitions.

If you look back now, is there a time you will recount with joy while playing female football?

Sometimes I feel sad that I didn’t continue what I know how to do best in the midst of the girls but I ignore it and let go. It’s not over, I still feel I will play for this country one day as a man but whether I play or not, I am happy with life. I was excluded from the 1999 Women’s World Cup but when the team returned home, my club FCT Queens had a match against Pelican Stars, which paraded all the superstars like Ann Agumanu, Mercy Akide, Eberechi Opara and Stella Mbachu. I was the only star in my team. It’s a game people still talk about. We were 2-1 down and I scored an incredible goal from the flank. That goal helped us beat Pelican 3-2 and they were complaining that why did they allow me to play the game after it was discovered that I am a hermaphrodite. People still say it was the best game they saw me play. My goal gingered my teammates to beat them. I will never forget that game. FCT Queens also won the Challenge Cup and I was one of the team’s trainers. That was how I got help to go for surgery. We were hosted in Sheraton and the then FCT Minister Nasir el-Rufai sponsored me to the US for the surgery.

Initially, was it easy blending from a female to male?

It was not easy in the beginning playing with the men but I took up the challenge. I didn’t get support as a male footballer. If I had remained as a female footballer, I knew where I would be now. In men’s football, it’s all about who you know. If you don’t have someone to back you up, forget it, no matter what you play. I felt there was no need going to a club and telling them that I was Iyabo Abade. I wanted to be there on merit but after signing, I faced discrimination. I played for NEPA and Plateau United. At Plateau, they brought me in always as a late substitute because they didn’t believe I could play. But we were five they selected out of over 100 players that came for trials. If I was not good, why did they pick me from such a large number of players?

Do you sometimes feel like being a woman?

I chose to become a man because it is what God wants me to be. I didn’t use money as my priority in opting to be a man. If it was for money reasons, I would have remained as a woman because I was getting to the top of female football in Nigeria. I am happy with the decision I took. If I became a female, I probably wouldn’t have been happy with my life. So I just decided to move on. I am not regretting the step I made. I can tell you, women are running after me like Usain Bolt and I think it is better for me. I like it that way. I never expected it that way. Today, I am pleased that people want to know me.

We know you have been very close to Agatha Agu for a very long time. Are you planning to get married to her?

She is a very good person and if God says she is going to be my wife, I will be the happiest man because she deserves it; she has always been there for me right from our days in female football. She has been my backbone even when things are not working well. I know by His grace, we will get there.

Can you tell us your best moment?

I don’t have any yet until I wear the colours of the national team. If I cannot play for the main Eagles, at least I can for the home-based Eagles. I will appreciate if I get the opportunity.

If the home-based Eagles camp is thrown open ahead of the 2014 CHAN, do you think you can make it?

With God, I will make it. I am so sure of myself.

What is your word for coach Stephen Keshi?

I wish him the best. He has won the AFCON trophy, so we should appreciate him even if he is making some mistakes. We shouldn’t be criticising him always. He is a good coach and he needs our support.

… ''Olusegun Obasanjo, The First ‘419’ President''

Photo: Political INSULT:

… ''Olusegun Obasanjo, The First ‘419’ President''

…Written By Sonala Olumhense

As Time marches on, it becomes clearer just how tragic the presidency of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo really was. In a speech last week, he dismissed Nigerian leaders who were not good enough. Everyone but he.

And then he dismissed Nigerians for not finding him to have been exceptional. If Nigerians were yet to find a leader worthy of commendation after 53 years of independence, he declared, “Then we are jinxed and cursed; we should all go to hell.”

No, Chief, I humbly disagree. Only dishonest and unpatriotic leaders qualify for perdition.
Obasanjo was wielding his weapons in front of a captive crowd at the University of Ibadan. He cited as very bad boys such people as Atiku Abubakar, who served as Vice-President in his administration; Salisu Buhari, a certificate-forging former Speaker of the House of Representatives recently appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan into the Governing Council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; and former governors Bola Tinubu, Deprieye Alamieyeseigha, James Ibori and Lucky Igbinedion.

“Abacha, my predecessor got $750m. Through our lawyer in Switzerland we recovered $1.25bn and the lawyer still said there is probably still another $1bn to be recovered…”
Actually, Abacha was not Obasanjo’s predecessor, except perhaps in duplicity. In between them, in temporal terms, there was one Abdusallam Abubakar.
But Obasanjo, The Hypocrite, has no commitment to facts or to History. Not once, during his imperious History lesson last week, did he refer to the bad seeds he sowed or the waters he poisoned or the children he starved.
But his are the shark-infested waters in which we now sink, and for as long as he tries to write the history of Nigeria to suit his bloated ego, we must never tire of reminding the world of the true story. Here are just 10 elements:
• Obasanjo, The Hypocrite, benefitted the most from the elections of 2003 and 2007, which local and international observers complained were rigged.
• Obasanjo was his own Minister of Petroleum Resources throughout his tenure, without accountability, and it was during that watch that the dirty practices now being unveiled by various probe panes started.
• In the famous case of Works Minister Tony Anenih, The Hypocrite complained he had budgeted N300 billion for roads during his first term, but he never asked “Mr. Fix-It” about the money.
• Obasanjo saw no contradiction in using the Petroleum Trust Development Fund as his own ATM.
• Obasanjo brags about recovering up to $2.5 billion from Abacha alone; he never says anything about how the money disappeared.
• Obasanjo has not said one word about the injustice of Anambra’s horrendous Okija Shrine or the report of the federal high-level panel that he suppressed.
• Obasanjo says nothing about the assassinations during his tenure that included the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Bola Ige.
• Obasanjo says nothing about the Haliburton scandal, for which various reports have indicted him, or about his so-called “anti-corruption” agencies which only targeted his enemies.
• Obasanjo’s economic reform, NEEDS, died within months of being launched, and he never mentioned it again.
• Obasanjo spent between $10 and $16 billion under the ruse of an electricity scheme; some of those he paid allegedly did not even clear a patch of land.
All of this is despite his arriving in office in 1999 swearing he would be different. At his inauguration, he told Nigerians: “You have been asked many times in the past to make sacrifices and to be patient. I am also going to ask you to make sacrifices, and to exercise patience. The difference will be that in the past sacrifices were made and patience exercised with little or no results. This time, however, the results of your sacrifice and patience will be clear and manifest for all to see…I will give the forthright, purposeful, committed, honest and transparent leadership that the situation demands…”
Never has more sordid falsehood been uttered.
When the 2003 rigging was completed, he returned to the microphone at his inauguration and said, “I have repeatedly called for moral rectitude, and I will continue to repeat the message. I simply refuse to accept the cynical view that Nigerians prefer chaos to order. I cannot endorse the view that Nigerians are innately corrupt…We all have a stake in Enterprise Nigeria and each of us stands a better chance in getting optimum dividends if, instead of asking "What's in it for me", we ask "what's in it for Nigeria…"
But Obasanjo, The Hypocrite, saw nothing wrong with establishing Transcorp and using it to enrich himself. He saw no contradiction in his cabinet approving money-making schemes for him.
Later, somebody asked General Victor Malu, a former Chief of Army Staff, to assess Obasanjo’s government. “In few words, it is the worst government that I have seen in this country,” the General replied. “And I am 58 years old. I have never seen a government that is so reckless in everything. It disrespects the wishes of the people, disobeys the rules or the constitution, disobeys court judgements, including the Supreme Court. I don’t think it has happened before.”
How insufferable was Obasanjo? In a speech at the 11th Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja on June 1, 2005, he lamented that “past administrations fostered a culture of corruption and mistrust and thus encouraged undeserved stereotyped information and inaccurate judgments about [Nigerians] as a people and nation.” His government, he swore, would remain committed to creating “a culture of integrity, dignity, confidence and trust.”
But that was the very same day that his government approved seven new private universities from 145 applications. One of them: Obasanjo’s Bells University.
Obasanjo boisterously invokes such names as James Ibori, Tinubu and Igbinedion, but conveniently forgets that in 2006, he ignored a report he had commissioned and refused to prosecute 15 indicted governors, including those three.
The Hypocrite similarly forgets that his domestic aide, Andy Uba, used the presidential jet to launder hundreds of thousands of dollars, for which he was convicted in the United States.
Every objective evaluation demonstrates that Obasanjo is responsible for the kleptocracy that runs Nigeria today. What is even worse is that as a parting menace, he committed the greatest treason of all: handcuffing his country to a spineless, incompetent and compromised cabal he knew would asphyxiate it. And he turns around to blame it.
Still, The Hypocrite is right on one account: the Nigerian tragedy is also about followership. “If we talk about good leadership you should also talk about good followers,” he said.
Nigerians are atrocious followers. We are cowards and sycophants who would rather feed mud to our children than fight for the right to food. At the event, for instance, Vice-Chancellor Isaac Adewole shamelessly swallowed the baloney Obasanjo had just spilled all over Nigeria’s oldest university, and then questioned the nation’s political prospects in 2015.
Equally stunning, not one student was reported to have walked out, slamming doors in disgust.
Obasanjo is Nigeria’s first 419 leader, and he knows it. But he is counting on the Nigerian people, especially the youth, remaining too distracted or too scared to rise to their feet and say, emphatically and in unison: “NO,” “ENOUGH” and “NONSENSE!”

As Time marches on, it becomes clearer just how tragic the presidency of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo really was. In a speech last week, he dismissed Nigerian leaders who were not good enough. Everyone but he.

“This is to disclaim and dissociate the Governor and the State Government from this unsolicited and unwarranted venture.

“This is against the backdrop of the fact that Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) is focused on sustaining the high tempo of development engendering governance right till the end of his second tenure in Office and therefore cannot yield to distractions by any individual or group of mischief makers.

---Only Death Will Stop Me From Contesting In 2015 ---

“But I Know I Will Not DIE before 2015”

… Muhammadu Buhari tells Journalist…

Former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has said that only death will separate him from politics and 2015 presidential contest. General Buhari who was the 2011 presidential candidate of the opposition Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) that had just merged into All Progressives Congress (APC) said as long as he lived he would never quit politics.

The three-time presidential candidate of CPC who spoke on Kaduna-based Desmin Independent Television (DITV) last weekend, which was monitored by Daily Sun added that he would willingly offer himself for the next presidential race if the APC members and his supporters decided to give him the opportunity again.

He expressed the fear that if power was not wrested from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015, individuals under the party would plunder the nation’s resources and pocket them for personal satisfaction. He said, “on the issue of my ambition to contest the next election or not. Many people, especially from my party, are really disturbed.

The joyful thing is that I didn’t say I quit politics. I will never quit politics as far as I live. I only said that I will not present myself to contest but my party members said they want me to remain in the race. But I said the new party will follow due process in selecting candidates right from ward level to national level. “Since I am in the new party as a member, if after consultations they include me among their aspirants I will not reject their offer. This is what I want people to know. “I want people to be patient with what we are doing now.

They should allow the merger to succeed first. I am sure the new party leaders will know those that are relevant and saleable to Nigerian electorate. I don’t want people to be too much disturbed about my political ambition. I will only abide by what my supporters say. “Malpractice during election is our major problem. My political party sued INEC after the last election because INEC was given N90 billion to conduct the election.

They assured us that they have collected those money because we were not satisfied with the conduct of the election. “We must be patient with ourselves as a people. I believe in Nigeria now that we are about celebrating centenary after 100 years of being together. We must be patient with one another irrespective of tribal and religious affiliations. “We believe by the time we have good government in place we will provide jobs and security to our people. We understand Nigeria, we understand the problem facing Nigeria.

We believe with good government in place the abundance of wealth and human resources God blessed this country with will be put into use for the benefit of the people. “This is our intention and we believe it is possible. Some people painted me wrong during the past election that I am an Islamic extremist. All these were lies attributed to me and those who did that shouldn’t have done it because I was a soldier by profession.

“Seventy percent of soldiers in Nigeria when I was in the service were Christians and those under my platoon never accused me of discriminating against them on religious and tribal basis. “If we did not get a strong party that will challenge them they will end up sharing all the country’s wealth into private pockets.” This is why we believe that a strong opposition party will do well in that regards.

Politics is all about credible election and it is the only way out of our democracy which we all believe in. “1999 constitution allows political associations and it was from, the same constitution that the electoral act was removed. So our party’ motto is equity while PDP use power to the people but I am sure Nigerians know better if actually the power is in their hands.

“Most political parties mission or manifestos is to see that their citizen’s feel secure any where they are. They can move at any time of the day without being afraid of anything. This is what peace is all about. Another things is wealth creation whereby people particularly youths have something doing either in industries including those still in schools.

“Without peace and wealth a country will find itself in the kind of situation we found ourselves today. Any political party that was registered always promised to provide these things I mentioned. The PDP has been tested for almost 13 years now.

That is why we the opposition parties decided to come together to ensure that there is a credible election in this country. We are very much sure that with a credible election we are going to defeat them so as to provide good to our people.

“Those who have interest in politics of this country should know where we are from 2007 to date. Most Nigerians are aware of the strength of PDP from 1999 to 2007. People know that unless the opposition parties, those with representatives at states and Federal levels came together as one there is no way we can restructure Nigerian democracy.”
