POLITICS: A Bill to Strenghten Sharia Law Passes Second Reading Without Debate
A bill to increase the powers and jurisdiction of "Sharia Law" in
Nigeria has passed second reading by the Nigeria's House of Assembly. It was learnt that House Speaker, Yakubu Dogara advised lawmaker, Abdullahi Salame (the lawmaker representing Gwadabawa/ Illela federal constituency of Sokoto state) to sponsor the bill.The bill scaled through without a debate. Abdullahi Salame, said Mr.
Dogara recognised that the bill could draw public outrage, and urged him
not to “make noise” about the bill. Mr. Salame was widely
