ECONOMY: As Fuel Scarcity Looms: President Jonathan Orders Oil Marketers to be Paid
To halt the current fuel scarcity ravaging the country, the Federal Government yesterday assured it would pay Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) about N156 billion today. The Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala,stated this at the World Customs Day event held in Abuja yesterday. The Minister said the payment of N156 billion represents the remaining tranche of the N256.2 billion debt owed MOMAN in subsidy claims.
EDUCATION: President Jonathan Approves 2 New Universities, "Edwin Clark University & Hezekiah University"
The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the establishment of two new private universities in the country. The decision was taken at the weekly meeting of the council, presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan. One of the new universities is Edwin Clark University located in Kiagbodo, Delta State. The university belongs to Chief Edwin Clark, an Ijaw leader and major supporter of the President. Clark was also a former Federal Commissioner of Information in the First Republic.
